Our outdoor play area has been revamped. We now have french doors from the classroom into the playground. Our head says we dont need to have a staff member outside now as we can see the children from the classroom. However i'm a bit weary - what do others do?

Moving Into Reception Class In September
by Guest heleng- 6 replies

Hello everyone, I have been reading through various posts and discussions with interest as I am moving into Reception in September. I have been asked to introduce the EYFS, Letters and Sounds and various other bits and pieces!! I currently teach in Year 1 and have always tried to use a play based approach as much as possible. The thing I am most interested in are the discussions on the Creative Learning Journey. We currently run a themed Friday where the curriculum is collapsed and the Rec, Y1 and Y2 children are mixed. They visit each of the three teachers and have an activity based around the theme with key objectives for their year group. This is great fu…

We have got a meeting in two weeks time for the parents of the new reception children. I was just wondering what other schools give out at these meetings, as the head would like me to put together some general information about the foundation stage and anything else I feel relevant (probably as a handout). I am currently an NQT and feeling a bit anxious about the parents meeting. Any ideas would be great. Thanks x

Not a real problem in that i have taught jehovahs witness children before. My TA and I visited 4 of the nurseries and saw our new children for September, this little girl is coming to us from out of the normal catchment area, so only one from this particular nursey ,very quiet child...I don't know why but I asked the teacher'is she a JW?'yes.(this was the nursery where the other JW children came from ) I will of course chat to mum and dad on the parent evening. To the point... does anyone have knowledge of or tell me where to find guidance on teaching them, or particular literature for them and me?? Tinkerbellx

Hi all We are trying to develop our outdoor provision and are trying to think of thinks to go outside that are all year round, tough and durable and not too much hassle to pack away. At present we have the usual hoops, bikes, stilts, large sand pit, stage area and pirate ship, play house and general resources from indoors we put outside. However we need to develop the outdoor resources so that we are able to have outdoor play during the wet and colder months... What resources do you have that work well. Any ideas. Thanks Lorna

New Intake Visit

First of all I would like to thank everyone who gave me advice for my new parents meeting. It was today and it went very well. Now I need your help again. In a few weeks time the new children are coming in to school to spend the morning with me in what will be their class. What sort of activities do you guys do on visits like that? I'd really appreciate any ideas you have. Yet again, the present reception teacher is unwilling to share her ideas with me. Her NNEB is also playing her game and refusing to help. She says she will do whatever I want her to do, but that is it!! Thanks in advance. Moisy
