Reception Jobshare

Hi I am currently in my second year of jobsharing a year 1 class with my partner. (Me Mon/Tues/Wed and her Thurs/Fri) It runs smoothly - I take planning responsibility for Literacy and her for Numeracy which we each plan for the whole week to ensure a good flow and then as far as the other subjects go we each plan our own subjects according to the days we are in and the timetabled subjects for those days (hope that makes sense?!) From September we will be moving to Reception... I taught Reception for 5 years before having time out to have my daughter but it was full time and my jobshare partner will be new to the foundation stage. I am trying to get my …

Hello, does anyone know this poem? I am using one of the New Framework plans from Hamilton with my Year 1's and it suggests this poem. If anyone could help I would be grateful. It's in a Read me First book, but we don't have them at school. Thanks

We are over subscribed for September and someone raised the question..... If a child fails to get a place in our reception class and the parents choose not to send the child to another school can they still access nursery provision until the child becomes legal school age ie Spt after their 5th birthday? Any ideas?

Ofsted On Their Way!

Had the call on Friday for two day inspection Thursday and Friday. Any ideas for 3 D shape would be much appreciated. Spent whole day today working, as I am school SENCo, which adds to the pressure. I will be required to teach Reception for a morning. So just got around to planning. I have questioned several times , should a job really intrude on one's life as much as this one does? I know that many of you out there have experienced the same feelings. Just be glad when it's over!!! Many thanks

Hi all, Just want some advise on moving to a more structured day in Reception. My HT is starting to kick up a fuss as it is Summer Term and she feels the children should be doing more writing and working more formally in preparation for Year 1. I have tried to move to set Literacy and Numeracy sessions with set activities to choose from and other ELGs in the afternoon but have found the noise levels unbearable, the amount of paper to go through impossible and the time they have outside dwindle to almost nothing. I had a good system of spliting the class into two groups to go outside in different session (not possible to do free flow) with the focused activities in …

Ofsted - 2 Day Inspection
by Guest- 20 replies

Hi everyone, We are being inspected next wed and thurs and there are 2 early years inspectors on the team. It's my first inspection and I'm worried. They've said the longest they'll observe in FS is for 20 minutes cause that's all they would expect children to be at any one activity. Naturally I'm planning some fantastic (hopefully) activities but am worried that they may come at the wrong 20 minutes - milk and fruit time, tidy up time etc. I just wanted to know how long did they actually spend with you - did each of the inspectors some seperately? Did they come in and observe on the first day only or did they come on the second day too. Am FS co-ordinator too s…

DOes anyone have any idea of the dimensions of a large dinosaurs footprint e.g. diplodocus? I want to draw out a life size print and then see how many of the children's footprints will fit in size. Been on google for ages but don't seem to be having any luck - know everything else about dinosaurs just not what i want to know! I'm having on of those days!

Potted Sports

At the school staff meeting it was decided to move away from traditional sports and try out a skills/potted sports theme. It's my first year in Nursery and I've never been to a traditional Nursery sports let alone a potted sports, except for years ago when my children were little. Does anyone do this and what sort of activities would you include? I'd thought about small mixed teams of about 6 at the most so they don't have to wait too long for a turn and including things like - - carrying buckets of water and scoring points according to how much was collected - climbing over an obstacle - how many times they can climb up and slide down the slide - kicking a ball into …
