More Formal Summer Term?
by Guest- 5 replies

I know there have been discussions about this last year however I just wanted to know what people were doing in terms of preparing children for Year 1. I am (and did last year) accompanying children on an induction visit to year one, arranging additional visits (one afternoon a week) on a needs led basis for my most vulnerable children, new teacher sending a welcome letter, children going into their new class for a story every week etc. Last year I did not get any more formal in the summer term as this was what my head asked and I did not question it. However some of my most able and most secure children cried each day in their new class until Christmas. One still cri…

Does anyone know of any ICT activities that fit in with 'The Little Red Hen' or baking bread? It's the dreaded 'weekly-ICT-slot-with-29-Reception-children'. Just excuse me whilst I run screaming from the room . Thank you!

Just trying to use the primary frameworks for literacy and numeracy. Was wondering if anybody else is using them yet and could advise as to how they fit them in and the time they spend on each unit etc. Any advice would be fantastic.

We are thinking of purchasing write dance to use in FS and KS1 at our school. I have been searching the internet and I'm a bit confused (not hard at this time of the term ). There seems to be 'Write Dance in the Nursery' and 'Write dance'. I teach Reception- would I use 'Write Dance in the nursery' or just 'Write Dance'?! What does everybody else do?

Independent Activities
by Guest- 1 reply

hello everyone Today my TA was out all day, so I was on my own in class all morning (reception). I had a lovely day, which I didn't really expect (being on my own and all), and I put it down (in part) to one really successful independent activity (drawing round an egg template on black paper and chalking patterns on it - even some of my boys who never do creative had a go without any prompting from me ). I'm sure this may have been asked before, but what do you put out for independent activities (I think I mean adult initiated independent activities, rather than things they can self select to go out)? My class are very independent, the majority self se…

java script:emoticon(':D', 'smid_4') oh lovely people out there! I need to choose a class auther for summer term. It doesn't have to tie in with topic based work (which is growing & colour in sum1 and adventures/ pirates in sum2!) Last term we choose the Mr.Men series which was great as there was so much to go on and children really enjoyed. I can think of many great books - but struggling to think of 'one' auther to last the duration etc. Any ideas? Skylightxx

We Have Had A Go..
by Guest- 4 replies

Ok - so we tried the big write on Fri and our results were very mixed. We had one group who wrote a lot, correct spellings using some capitl letters and full stops etc.. Another group just copied the wow words from the board and another group just made marks. This group worries me as they are not associating writing with recording the sounds they can hear on paper. They recognise sounds and can tell me the sounds in words but they re not associating this with writing. Any ideas on what i can do to help this group? Thanks in advance Lola
