Looking At Melting
by Guest- 7 replies

Hi everyone, As you can probably guess I am making Rice Crispy cakes next week and was wondering if anyone had any top tips for melting chocolate. I have done it lots of times over the years various different ways and there was a bit of a debate in our unit about bowl hot water 'v' microwave and also wanting the children to 'see' the chocolate melt. Any pearls of wisdom gratefully received! mmm all this talk of chocolate is making me crave a large bar of dairy milk!!!

Hi all I have had an interesting discussion at school and wonder what all your children do when they are not working with an adult. Our children currently have a jobs board with 6+ jobs- plus access to the outside with similar activities available..... this shows the sctivities out today and a suggestion of what you might like to do.... this is not policed by staff due to numbers and we find it hard to overview what the children are doing.... it has been suggested that if we are not assessing what the children are doing during an activity then whats the point.... I argue that in FS children are supposed to have access to CI play..... isn't that what we are doing??…

Dancing Stars!
by Guest- 8 replies

We are padding out our Christmas production with some dances. My class are doing a star dance (which I have yet to choreograph!) and I was hoping some of you could recommend some good music. So far the best I have found is a couple of tracks from a Jean-Michel Jarre CD but I have a feeling that his music was used a couple of years ago. I'm sure there are lots of other suitable songs out there - I just can't think of them?! Any ideas folks?

Just wondering about how many meetings can a parent request and how often to discuss child's progress? I thought the statutory was twice a year as well. as a written report - Obviously more often for parents of children with SEN as IEPs are due. However, a parent with diagnosed 'problems' is requesting meetings with a variety of staff on an almost daily basis - is the parent entitled to this or should we be firm? we have accommodated the needs up to now but can not keep giving up the time to dedicate to feedback of one child in this way - any advice greatly appreciated

Hi About two weeks ago the hard drive on my school laptop decided to 'give up' on me. Hence I lost an absolute pile of work - the moral is back up everything....as I will do!!! I did have a document called 'Phonics Games' with some nice activities on it but after doing a search for it I cannot find it. Does anyone have the word document, or if you could direct me to it I would be very happy!! Thanks to Marion who I have emailed for help after having a little cry as all my planning had gone! Never mind it's my own fault as my husband says.................. Thanks in advance!

Reading In Reception
by Guest- 9 replies

I know there is stuff on here about reading in reception and I have read a lot of it but my big problem is when and howI am meant to fit in reading when i only have my reception class for the morning and only 1 TA. I seem to be failing at everything on thif front and I think it is just down to basic organisation of the morning. How long should the reading sessions be? Do they always need a directed writing activity and what sort of format should that be?I just seem to get to the end of the week with loads of stuff not done and it is getting really demoralising I have asked about organisation before I know but I am obviously not much good because it still seems to be going…

Help Please From Coordinators
by Guest- 4 replies
- 1.6k views
Hi guys, Had an early years meeting with the powers that be to discuss new initiatives and moving early years forward. I've been told that as the reception teacher (we have no coordinator) i need to be leading the direction for subject development - spercificly science, history, geography and ict. (im fine with ict as im the coordinator) but im not really sure what this means. What could i be changing? I've tried to move away from the formal way of teaching previously used so the children can explore what they're interested in. Any help would be appreciated. thanks x
