Can anyone tell where I can get some builder's tray's? I have been to B&Q and a builder's merchant and couldn't get them st either. We've just had our outdoor area expanded and wondered if anyone could give me nay ideas as to what I could put out there! There is a small grassy part and the rest is tarmac. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks

Use Of Scissors!

I've just started in a new school - and one thing we looked at was the health and safety policy, on reading the section on using scissors - there were the usual guidelines regarding teaching children to carry them safely but for Reception it said 'that children could use scissors on request only' - in other words if they wanted them they needed to ask for them and we would fetch them out of the cupboard - ! In the past I've always trusted mine to access them freely and ok there has been the odd haircut but generally they've been pretty sensible - just out of interest what do others do?

Hello everyone! Hope that you all had a great summer and are ready for another exciting year! I was chatting with a KS2 teacher yesterday and told her about The Foundation Stage Forum and how helpful its members are. She was very impressed and asked me if I new of a similar forum for KS2 teachers and teaching assistants. I personally do not know, but I thought maybe someone on the Forum might!! So if you have heard of such a forum, please let me know. Although I am sure it will not be as good as ours. Love Zouzou XX

Hi, just wondered what others do for self-initiated activities. I work in quite a formal school where we follow local topic plans with Learning objectives, etc. However, in light of all recent stuff on self-chosen activities being so much a part of profiling for Reception children, not sure what to do now. Our assessment co-ordinator does not feel we will be able to deliver NNS and NLS objectives as well as rest of FS curriculum through self-chosen activities. Also some of profile points are difficult to achieve unless you actually ask children to complete a certain activity on different occasions throughout the year. Also ....how can you plan long-term for this, list obje…

Been into work today and have been organising my book area. I want to have a core books section, and wondered if anyone had a core book list they would be willing to share, or ideas of books they think should be included. So far, off the top of my head I have Hungry Caterpillar, Titch, Kipper's Toybox, Just like Jasper, Gruffalo etc etc Look forward to your ideas Thank you

Role Play Area Equipment

Hi everyone, Interesting times and a general debate question that has arose from presonal circumstance and situation. We have in our role play area : sink, cooker, cuboard, dressing up trolley, table & 2 chairs. Space is limited and of an unusal design ... so the role-play has to adopt to ongoing topics. The resources are now so battered & old - they need throwing out. This has led to debate re: what to be replaced etc. Budget put aside for now, what would you do? What would you buy? I'm parcially excited by new ideas and recognise 'old' conventions. We have discussed getting rid of the 'conventional' kitchen etc. to be replaced by partitions, …

Now I know we're extra lucky - as we've been given an spare room near to our two Reception classes - the Head is really keen for this to be set up for use by these two classes - she'd like to see a role play area and other areas linked to CD -I' ve also been thinking along these ideas - but have to bear in mind that it is used for some classes to walk through - though this may be changed and sometimes 3 classes will meet in there - what would you do with this area ?- all ideas welcomed!!

at the start of the summer holidays I spent over a week sorting out my new classroom-arranging into areas and throwing a lot of stuff out. went in today to put symbols on things and label up my areas to find everything has been moved. i can only assume its the cleaners but nothing is now in the right place. its so depressing-now im going to have to go back in on fri and I havent even finished my planning yet! i wanted everything to be right for when I went back (its my NQT year so am terrified anyway). just feel so down about everything now and worried its all going to go really badly. sorry for my rant. sure i'll feel better on mon.
