Hi all In September our head wants us to do a daily or weekly challenge for the children when they come in in the morning.... e.g. how many things can you find that are yellow, how many words can you find in the word.... They need to be simple enough for the children to on their own- reception class and a few sen year 1s.... we have 10 mins or so for the children to be dropped off and at present they choose an play activity off one of the table tops to do...... As its only me in the classroom and I am usually busy talking to parents or dealing with children who need help coming in..... the activities are going to have to be achievable without adult guiadance.…

Setting Up A Nursery In School
by Guest- 1 reply

I am a Foundation Stage 2 class teacher. I have been trying for the last 3 years to forge links with our onsite playgroup (they just rent a room but are not part of the school) and I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall. They don't seem to care about their children, never ask how they are getting on when they start school, I don't see any 'work' or photographs of what the children have been doing and wherever I go into the setting they are having a chat, counting money or doing paperwork - leaving the children to run riot! We would like to set up our own nursery or possibly FS unit. Does anyone know how I would go about this? or has anyone got any idea…

A Calm And Relaxed Person

just had a PDI with some of my senior managers (who I don't really get along with) and they started criticising the smallest things and making them seem really really big issues... for example... they don't want me to give the children 'high-fives' for doing something well or good work... the children in my class love them... and will always ask for one instead of a sticker! - they said it's to excitable and I need to have a 'calmer' classroom!!!!??? That's not the way I am... I'm energetic and enthused about most things in school and can't be... and I quote "more calm and quieter"! They said a whole bunch of other things too which to be quite frank really hacked me o…

Hope someone can help - I've found a transition policy on the forum that covers transition from FS to Year 1 but I just wondered if anyone has a policy that covers FSU to Year 1, Year 2 to Year 3 and Year 6 to Year 7? We are wanting to create a whole school transition policy. Or if you can direct me to any useful website I would be really grateful....Thanks!!

Bees!

We are having an science/art week this week and I am looking at bees! Any ideas on activities - anything at all? I am going to get the children to make what a bee sees through its compound eye by using straws, they are then going to draw what they see. I am going to link my maths in by doing repeating patterns and in Literacy we are doing a big book all about the honeybee. I am in need of inspiration! Thanks.

Playing With Sounds V Jolly Phonic
by Guest- 19 replies

Hi I attended an early years meeting recently, and there were a few hints made: 1. The new Early Years Foundation Stage document is not well written, has some good elements. We should all make comments on it before the end of July via the Primary Stategy Website 2. The Rose report has helped decide that we should use one program of phonics not two or more. As the new Early Years FS document lays the phonics out according to Playing with Sounds does this mean we are encuraged to use this program alone??? Would be interested to hear what others think!
