Hi! My setting has several of these Mr Bump Soothing coolers - the type you keep in the fridge - for children to use. Some in FS, some in KS1 and KS2 What we don't have is a protocol or procedure for cleaning them after use. I'm not sure actually that they always get cleaned but are put back in the fridge along with the milk and staff lunches! Not very hygienic I'm sure. I was just wondering what methods other settings use to clean them after use and if anyone has a protocol they would be kind enough to share. Thanks

Involving parents

Hi everyone, I have recently started a new job in a FS unit. In my old post, we involved parents greatly in their child's learning through stay and play sessions and open lessons. It was a very much 'open door' policy. At my new school, parents have been kept at arms length for a long time and I am keen to engage the parents and get them into the classroom! The head teacher is also on board with this but am struggling past the basic ideas. We are starting a stay and play session next week and are inviting parents to a new half termly visit to the library. I also want to invite them into theme days, such as part of our superhero party. Has anyone else ot any really goo…

Hi all, Me again!! Last year (NQT year) we had a music teacher who taught all music but she retired and so I will be teaching it. But I have actually never taught music before, not even on my teaching practises they had music specialist teachers! So I was just wondering where the best place is to start? I have a copy of Music Express for foundation stage - do people think this is a useful scheme? last year the children had a weekly whole class session for about half an hour, is this the best way? Or should it be taught through group activities like other areas of learning. Music is also covered within our continuous provision, we have an outside music area. As the…

Hi all, I have just started work in a reception class which has 2 classes combined = 60 children. Having come from a pre school/nursery background and having a maximum of 20-30 freeflow, I am interested in how freeflow with 60 children can work effectively and what other reception classes do. Thanks Net xx

Development issues

Hello. I have a new child who has just started in my class. He is EAL but has good english and appears to understand what is happening in class, even if he struggles to express himself. He uses a lot of grunts and moans to communicate even though he can speak, single and two word phrases. He was a prem baby and has been very protected but is now in school, I'm unsure if he has been to any nursery as they are new to the area, and his behaviour is causing us some worries. The biggest worry is his eye rolling. He seems to be facinated by his hands and when staring at them will continually go cross eyed. He is not the first prem child I have had but he is definatly the most c…
