Co-ordinating Numeracy

I've just been asked today to take over co-ordinating Numeracy from September. I've never co-ordinated a core subject before and want to get it right! Numeracy isn't my strongest or most favourite subject! Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? - things to look at, info I need to know about etc. I've looked at new framework and I think there is some training coming up soon about that, but I'd like to get a stronger understanding of all that is involved. It has been picked up as a weakness by the powers that be, so we will be getting some external help from an advisor etc. - I have to go with my head to a meeting about action plans and support in a few wee…

Hi, I have just found out that next year i will have reception and yr 1 mixed! We are going to introduce the 'creative learning journey' which if you have not heard of, is based on the 6 areas of learning in the F.Stage. Although lit/ maths will be taught seperately ( although links where can)the other subjects will be linked into a theme with a more topic based approach to teaching the N.C. It will enable the class to have the same topic theme and incorpoate yr 1 skills and ELGs / SS into one. Although this sounds ok I am not sure how to plan to ensure the reception children have oppotunities for child initiated and less strucutured learning. Has anyone got this ye…

As a fundraiser for our summer fair, we have white cap for each child to decorate somehow, the only idea we have come up with so far is tyedying them, and no-one is very inspired to do that!!!! Does anyone have any other creative but simple idea we could use to decorate them so that the children are involved in doing something? Looking forward to your suggestions! Thank you

Well... I've been thinking about this jb some more and have sent for the application pack so that's a step closer... my next question is however... What does everyone see as the 5 MOST important things a FS co-ordinator/leader of learning/whatever title you choose to go by should be aware of/deal with. Now I know this is an unanswerable question in some respects and I appreciate that it's ni on impossible to quantitfy such a thing... but I was just thinking - though I've temporarily been a FS leader in a large school - moving to FS/KS1 leader in a smaller school (which is due an OFSTED sometime soon) I just wanted to make sure I'd thought of things that might h…
