Topic Ideas... Please Help!

Our topic after Easter is 'The Park'. I am wondering if you have any ideas that I can take to my planning meeting. To begin with I am wondering if we could rename the topic if possible. Something a little more exciting and interesting. Has anyone done this topic, or similar, before? Last time I remember we focused on 'Percy the Park Keeper' and stories linked to growing such as 'The Tiny Seed'. Any ideas, however big or small would be appreciated, Thanks.

Had to laugh. Have been very interested in all the recent debate about synthetic phonics. Read about it my local paper yesterday, where the journalist explained it as: 'the process of blending sounds together. For example: s-t-r-e-e-t = street. " Me thinks not!! I'm for it in principle, with a bit of other stuff added in. But a lot of people not directly involved in education are gonna need a lot of training if it's gonna work, especially some parents. How often does this sort of stuff reach the parents as much as it should do?

I teach in a FS unit- it's great and it's also part of a school, so in effect I am employed by the school and all the other practitioners are employed by the EY service. At the moment I am being pulled in 2 directions the EY lot say one thing (same as me!) and the new HT who has no understanding of KS1 let alone FS, says something completely different. Don't get me wrong, I do have high expectations of my children , just that we don't do formal Literacy Hour. So he is observing me in regards to performance management and wants to see a Guided Reading lesson- he has given me an observation sheet of things he is looking for , but it is not exactly in sync with the EY e…

Creativity

Hi At school and courses that we have all attended recently there has been much debate on CREATIVITY. Here is a link to a website that talks about it in detail that you may find useful: http://www.ncaction.org.uk/creativity/whatis.htm The other big message is Cross-Curricular links which has been talked about for years! It's what we have always done in the FS. The KS1 currculum should never have had those rigid QCA units!
