Has anyone had any experience of training the rest of their school/team on the revised EYFS? I am trying to put some bits together from my own training but if anyone knows of any powerpoints etc that would be useful? Thanks

Baseline In The Foundation Stage

Calling out to all Foundation teachers, assistants, helpers, those who have gone before us, and those who know what they're talking about This is my first year in foundation stage and i'm 'lucky' enough that my class don't actually start for another week. So i've been told to hold off any short term planning until next week, but you know what it's like. I just cant help myself and want to be prepared. So here's my problem. When i taught in year 1 and throughout my training we always carried out baseline through 'tests'. I am aware that we don't test year F and am struggling to get my brain thinking in a foundation stage way. What sort of activities have people go…

Hi all I am looking for views an opinions on how every one arranges their Reception Class and why? I have always had a seat/table for each child.....I admit they weren't always used, but a lot of the time they were well used for a variety of activities. We have had an EY advisor who told us to get rid of the idea of every child needing a seat and just have areas.i.e making area, numeracy area, writing area......etc these areas are in the class and resources are freely available to the children to choose from independently. So I have now made areas using classroom furniture and some tables......but am a little unsure as to whether this is going to work..…

Managing Disruptive Behaviour

I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some advise regarding a boy I have coming into my year 1 class next year. He has some behavioural issues, however he was recently visited by someone who did an assessment and she felt that it was just a slight developmental delay rather than anything else. Her feeling was that he had come in behind in terms of behaviour due to issues at home and that some of the strataegies being used, whilst good when they were put in place, were no longer appropriate in helping him move forwards. Her advice was that low level disruptive/attention seeking behaviour should be ignored as much as possible and that all other behaviour sh…

Hi i am due for threshold in September as advised by my head teacher and she has asked me to put a personal statement together as to why I should move to UPS. I know this may sound stupid but its been a while since I have had to produce a personal statement and my head did not give any other guidance on the matter. Have any of you lovely people got any advice for me as to what to include please???? I would be most grateful for your replies. Thanks Kate

Hi everyone, I am an NQT and looking forward to starting my first year of teaching in a nursery class. I will be working with an teacher already established in the nursery there will be two of us teaching together. In the past this teacher has launched straight into topics and activities with the children at the begining of the term with lots of adult led activites taking place. I have found this to be ineffective for children who are settling in to the setting for the first time and even those settling back in after a long break for many reasons. I would like to do things differently this year as I feel it is important to have a settling in curriculum, where adul…

Assembly Ideas

It's not directly related to just EYFS, but I am to be the new Deputy at a school next week and have been asked to do an assembly to introduce myself to the chn? Anyone got any good ideas or stories I could use to introduce the concept of new beginnings/being uncertain about change etc. I would like to involve a few volunteers to do some role play. I always find this grabs the chn attention. So a story about change where the chn can help me act out the story would be good.

Hi all, If you were asked to write a short paragraph that summed up your ethos and how your setting is different to others, what sort of things would you include?
