Need To Rant!

Tomorrow is our Nativity. We have been doing this for a month, the lord mayor is coming and where are my staff? OFF!!! I am so sick of staff that cannot do the job and if we were part of the private sector they would have had their cards by now. At least 3 members of staff seem not to care about the children or other staff who now have to fill these gaps. Today one child was left in front of a tv, with the door open to the yard and parents waiting around to collect children, while she sat in the kitchen (could not see child from here!) on her mobile phone. I might sound like a right old bag BUT FOR GODS SAKE!! my 14 year old would know this was not an acceptable way to le…

what do others do when a child is persistently hitting / pushing / hurting others randomly for no apparent reason - at the moment we do the usual things, clear rules / boundaries, circle time discussions, talking to individuals involved, focussing on the injured party etc - am simply asking as at moment seem to be hitting my head against a brick wall in this area with a particular child, and although know that there are no instant answers, feel that maybe another professional perspective may be useful... looking forward to your replies cheers bb

Hi all I am appealing on behalf of my niece! She is doing a TA course and has to focus on planning, we have covered the general planning together but now she has to produce a hypothetical 6 week topic on KUW- science through stories. My brain has gone all blahhhh and I am struggling to come up with any more than the obvious...have you any suggestions? I am finding it difficult to believe that she is having to plan on a TA course for such a long period of time? Any suggestions will be greatly received...although I do appreciate that it is very difficult to think of anything other than cards, hats, calenders, glitter and nativities just now! Thanks Doug…

Hello, this is my first post although I have been using the forum for a bit and picking up lots of useful info - thank you! I am student teacher and have just completed my first block practice and enjoyed it tremendously - doing the topic of celebrations. Next term we'll be doing How things work and I would be grateful for any ideas of successful activities for this topic. Thanks Rosa

Basic Skills

School is having a 'back to basics' push at the minute. I've just spent a boring INSET looking over stuff that is so the same old, same old stuff! Was wondering if any of you knew where I could find a list of the 'back to basics' stuff relating to skills and knowledge in the Foundation Stage. We made a list, with the same stuff on it (that we all know we cover!), but I'm sure I've seen somewhere on here an 'official' looking one! Hope you can help! xxx

Just having a half-hearted look at next term's planning. I always like to look up important dates first and work around them. Thought these might be useful to other people. Eid-al-Adha - Tuesday 10th January Chinese New Year (year of the dog) - Thursday 29th January Valentines Day - Tuesday 14th February (half-term for us!) Shrove Tuesday (pancake day) - Tuesday 28th February Mothers Day - Sunday 26th March Easter weekend - Friday 14th April - Monday 17 April Jackie

Managing Reception And Year 1

Hi everyone, I've just done a term with a R/Y1 class (15 of each) and am still struggling to know how best to manage the 2 year groups. How do you have quality input time for the year 1's with restless reception children? How do you organise independent activities for Reception and still keep Year 1 on task? Can anyone out there offer any words of wisdom? I'd love to hear from you.
