Foundation Stage Unit

Hi I have recently been offered an interview for 'Foundation Stage Teacher', it means teaching 30 mixed Reception and Nursery aged children in an open plan setting which is open into Surestart area with children from birth to three. I currently teach Reception, and I'm not sure how this would work, any suggestions, I'm not sure what to do about the interview, do I go or not? I know they are waiting on news for Ofsted and the layout needs a lot of work! Any suggestions, I am perfectly happy where I am but the head had mentioned a teacher redundancy. That threat has now gone!

Paperwork/resources

Hi everyone I just liked to know how EY teachers organise all their paperwork. Do keep files and resources at home or school. At the moment I have very little room for my own storage. Also where do people keep resources that they have made? I think I am getting a little bogged down with all the paper!!

Hi I teach reception and there is a boy in my class who we are worried about. His mum came in and said she was concerned he may have obsessive compulsive disorder as he asked for his velcro shoes to be fastened over and over again. He is the same with having his cuffs on his sweatshirt rolled up and the same length. This gets very frustrating for him and his poor mum and he has started asking myself and our nursery nurse to tighten his shoes. This usually occurs before play or lunch time but can sometimes happen during the day. When we tighten them a second later he will say "but now this ones loose" or "this ones looser than that one" (one play time he asked me 20 t…

Parent Open Day
by Guest- 7 replies

Hi, I have been informed that I need to talk to the parents of the chn who will start in our nursery in January (I teach reception). My classroom assisitant will be running the session but is not confident enough to talk to parents in this type of situation, and as I will be the teacher overseeing her planning the job has been given to me. I would like some ideas about what to include in the talk. I have thought about telling them about the six areas of learning and how the foundation stage focuses on developing skills through hands on learning. Any ideas anybody? I have done a search on parents but couldn't find anything.

Boys' Writing - Inspiration Needed!
by Guest- 10 replies

Has anybody got any fantastic ideas for getting the boys in my Reception class to write? Our assessment data from last year shows that they are lagging way behind the girls at the end of Reception and we need to address this! This is partly due to poor fine motor skills - there are a few who are good readers but can't hold a pencil correctly. But I think the main issue is motivation. What could I do to inspire them? Is anyone out there facing the same problem and what have you done to overcome it? Thanks to anybody who can help! Susie
