Hi there, hope that everyone is well and still smiling this far into the term Today, I just received the very exciting news that my (reception) classroom is going to be fitted with an interactive 'smart' whiteboard !! I'm just beginning to research programmes which we can use on the smart board and wondered which programmes other people had used sucessfully. The whiteboard won't initially be linked to the internet, so would need to be resources we can buy rather than websites we can use. Any information on sites for all areas of the curriculum would be great! Am very excited about his (hope it won't be a technological nightmare!) and its great to be o…

Writing

Hope somebody can help me as feel a bit daft asking this!! Am moving from nursery to reception after half term and a bit confused about teaching writing. Current school has had a lot of changes and seems a little old fashioned in the way Yr R children have writing - overwriting, copying, and less independent phonic strategies. In my last school the children used mainly phonic strategies for all writing which worked well, but don't know whether i should be combining the two. We use jolly phonics scheme. hope i don't sound worryingly confused at the end of a busy day!!!

Reading

Our Deputy is obsessed with reading.I think she would love it if we just let children read all day. What is bugging me is that she comes into the classroom at anytime and takes chn out for individual reading. It disturbs the class and takes children away from other activities. She also pushes children who are not ready to read and i feel it is having a negative effect on them. How can i make her realise what she is doing is wrong without being rude to her?

Foundation Stage Policies

I knew I should have bought it when I saw it.......Last week at a stand at the TES Primary Conference there was a small, spiral bound booklet about writing policies for the Foundation Stage. It only cost about £6.00 but being of a mean, penny pinching disposition I didn't buy it. Guess what? This week I find out that I have to re-write, update, invent Foundation Stage policies for everything......does anyone know the title and publisher of the book I saw?

Hi I wanted to make some scented playdough by adding essential oils to it, has anyone had particular success with any particular smell, are there some that don't work? Somebody has suggested to me that some essential oils can be harmful to children's skin, and that the only suitable one is lavender, has anyone used any others?

I would really like to follow up with this next week with some non fiction afrcan books/african animal books. Does anyone have any inspiration for some activity ideas based around this theme??? Would be most appreciated!

Had a nightmare day. Reception class all over place today. Covering PPA time in the afternoons too. Teach reception for 60% of time and yr1/2 40%. Finding it hard to get my head focused on anything. Anyone else covering PPA time? Sorry just need to air my frustration to someone.

Inspiration For Writing Activity.

Hiya, I really could do with picking someones brains....so to speak. I am desperate to find inspiration for how to motivate boys and girls to pick up any kind of mark making tool. I've tried the pirate adventure/come message in abottle. I've done the magic fairy that leaves messages to death!!!!! I'm hoping that there's someone who is incredibly creative that can give me some simple ideas. You know contexts.... ideas of captivating interest and instigating a willingness to want to try to mark make......I know this is probably the 100-1 request but I'm sure that thers some inspiration out there. Completely exhausted Emma
