On to planning for next half term- we are a CE school and have to put down which stories from the bible we will cover during each half term. I usually read them for story time and sometines do a follow up activity if its relevant. Eg Noahs ark matching the animals. My question is which stories do you do and when during the year? Thanks in advance Lorna

Just wanted someones advice on this, in my Reception class of 23, I have 5 children with special needs, 1 statemented child, 2 autistic, 1 developmentally delayed child, and 1 Year 1 who is repeating part of the reception year.... I am experiencing particular difficulty with the autistic children in that they tend to imitate poor behaviour from each other.. The most difficult behaviour to deal with is frequent high pitched ear piercing screaming, which if one starts, the other will copy. Luckily the rest of the class so far have been really sensible when this happens and will just ignore it, and I would really love to hear from anyone who has had a similar ex…

Hi all, Started Jolly Phonics this week and, as usual, we've been doing the corresponding worksheet which goes with each sound. (Children with poor fine motor skills have been doing lots of gross motor instead). I have a couple of groups doing the letters while the rest are doing activities based around the same thing such as felt pens and huge bits of paper to practise writing on, playdough to make the letters with, whiteboards, sand tray etc etc It's got me wondering if I should actually be doing letter formation yet. I always have, but it seems to be frowned upon these days! So I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this...how soon do you start handw…

Wow, can't believe it's only the fourth week back. Am trying to pace myself, but that never works! Am REALLY loving my job for a change! Things are going from strength to strength at the minute for me - in my little bubble called a classroom anyway! What in past years has taken me weeks to do topic wise (due to double classroom setup and organisation of 'group work' and 'lessons') I've managed to do in a week with my lot - and the best thing is, the buzz is keeping them going, them active, them keen, them receptive and me just downright happy! I've been doing senses this week and have enjoyed cross curricular links in literacy for KU and have managed to do s…
