Hi there. In my reception class - and this is my first year EVER teaching reception by the way, I'm used to nursery - I have three groups of children: those who can read, those who recognise many sight words and high frequency words so SHOULD be reading by the end of the year and those who are struggling. We have asked the parents to get the children to practice four or five high frequency words a week and now have sent home flash cards, plus a letter stressing the importance of reading regularly with your child and we do writing very regularly and also sometimes flash cards with high frequency words as well. I am also going to put half of those flash cards on the wall ne…

In view of recent posts re: SEAL document, I was wondering if anyone can help me. In the last two or three months someone on this forum (I'm sure it was here ) made some reference to a new publication from QCA or primary strategy for FS teachers. It was a set of 6 DVDs and sounded really useful. It was supposed to have been sent into schools - about May or June I think, but our head had no knowledge of it - so I thought I'd order it myself. Problem is I can't remember what it was called, or even what the content was. Have followed the link from catma to the Primary Strategy but can't see anything on there. Have also tried the DFES site, but again nothing. Have t…

I have had a look on the Norfolk site which has got some great plans. It states that the children when studying about ourselves look at Marcellus birthday. Sorry if I sound stupid but does anyone know who he/she was and the sygnificance for early years children. Thankyou.

Good morning! I need help . I had seen something in the "Planning for the FS" that I still can not understand . If you look up at the long-term plan in page 11, there all these numbers in each area under each topic/them. Then it says "Key: numbers refer to the aspects of learning on page 20". I go to page 20 and there comes out a list. BUT... from where do they make this division ??? If one looks up the FS Curriculum, there is no reference to these numbers? How do I make the connection? Some things are related to the FS Profile, but not all. I will greatly appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

Seal Publication

Our school's learning mentor told me at the end of term about new publication from the DfES called 'Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning'. They seem very good and I was wondering whether anyone has had experience of using the materials? (They mention on the website that there was a pilot carried out last year) There is a whole section for Foundation Stage which links to both to 'Birth to three matters' and CGFS - and are split into themes that the whole school / setting covers. You can either download them from DfES But I think if you order the publication there are posters and a CD Rom. I must admit for a free publication it very good - and …

I am moving into the nursery in September so expect me to be on here for lots of advice. I have had my new children in for a visit with their parents and 3 are still in nappies. I have encouraged their parents to train them over the Summer but doubt that in at least two cases this will happen, so my question is: how do you deal with this? If they need changing and training what happens where their are only 2 staff present and both have to be together under CP precedurs when a child is changed?

I will be recieving £300 worth of 'e' learning credits. We are lucky to have a computer with plenty of games for the children to play with. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I can spend the money on? Or suggest some good catalogues with their contact number please. Many thanks Angie

Attainment Against Nc Levels
by Guest- 23 replies

Hi. I have been asked to assess my children against the NC attainment targets for Re (amongst others. Profile apparently too much to look through!) Where should they be? They look around AT1 1,2 and possibly 3, but in AT2 only 1. eg. AT1 Level 1 Pupils recount outlines of religious stories (1). They recognise features of religious life and practice, (2) and some religious symbols and words (3). and AT2 Level 1 They identify aspects of their own experience and feelings (1). Does that sound right? It's only basic RE in Reception. Is anybody else doing this? Why am i doing the profile if no-one is going to look at it!!

Hi, I am planning an art week for our school in the Autumn term. Our theme is portraits, with a particular emphasis on developing printing. Any good ideas for possible projects? Also, am trying to arrange some visitors to the school. Can anyone think of any sources other than secondary schools and art galleries? If anyone has had an art week that has been successful I would be really interested to hear what you did. Thanks
