Ta's

I really need some suggestions please. My TA has worked in my class since January and I have done my best to help her settle. The problem is she has no understanding of the foundation stage. I tried in the beginning to support by sharing the FS video and explaining my expectations for the children's learning etc... I always give her detailed activity plans as well as the opportunity to add her own ideas/ input (apparently it is not her job to teach, it is mine as she is not paid to do it). Last term she complained about me to the HT for not giving her detailed weekly plans like the TA's working in other classes and also told the HT there was little structure in my cla…

Please can someone help me? I manage a neighbourhood nursery and it is in a Rollalong building (Put up in a day made out of metal and wood!) In this very hot weather we are all cooking inside and some times it is too hot to go outside. We strip our babies down to nappies, pull the curtains across and have fans on but yesturday the temperature crept up to a frightening 31.5 degrees! I have tried to see if there is a maximum temp. to operate but cannot find an actual legal stipulation. Any ideas would be gratefully received, from a desperate very sweaty Nursery Manager Teri

Parents Evenings

As my first parents evening is fastly approaching i was wondering how you all word things when you are trying to describe more challenging children. For example for a child who is generally naughty and often lashes out. On the other hand what about a child who has not made very much academic progress throughout the year and you know that their parent thinks otherwise!! Sorry-please don't think i am a negative person-Im actually very positive-its just that i don't want to skim over these as i feel it is important parents are told this! Does this make sense?? I'm not sure!!

Thought I'd share with you a very happy moment - as recently my posts have been more like death!!! SIO came in today and was very impressed with my interactions with the children. After seeing a lot of teacher-directed play (and no I didn't say I told you so!), she held the video footage of me playing with the children as a "shining example" of how teachers should engage children in more child-centred, child-directed play with the teacher facilitating learning 'through the back door' so to speak. She wants to invite the whole FS team in to view the video (as there was only me, the FS co, the other Rec teacher and her NN there) and discuss the strengths as well as wa…

Free-flow indoor-outdoor play sound great but how do I make it work when theres just me and 25 children? How do I ensure they get the right quality of activity? And do I need to post somebody outside or can I place myself by the door to supervise both areas?

Yr 1 Children In Reception
by Guest- 10 replies

Hello All, We currently have a reception class of 34 children and only 30 of them can go into yr1. This means the 4 children with lowest profile scores will stay in reception next yr for the mornings only and go into yr1 for the afternoons. We are not happy with this but it cannot be changed. Has anyone else experienced this? I would be grateful of any advice. Thanks

Me Again! Re. Outdoor Play Project

Hi there! Thanks SO much for you help on other posts!!!!!!!!! I REALLY appreciate it! Now, I have been on three day courses in my borough on outdoor play, an area everyone in the early years KNOWS needs to be picked up. But what I am supposed to do is improve the outdoor area but really it is a TEAM job there were about 20 suggestions and I feel it is too much for one person, when I have a reception class as well and all the work THAT entails! There is a moderation on CLL coming up and we just finished reports so it's not like people haven't been busy. But how can I get the others involved in the early years team - I've TRIED! I think I will hold a meeting. I've got about…
