Social Stories

Hi everyone, I have a child in my reception class with some behaviour difficulties. I have involved our LEA behaviour support team, who advised me to use social stories. Does anyone know of any publications as I haven't a clue how to write them?( or the time) I know they are supposed to be written in the first person and I guess they should focus on the child's specific difficulties. e.g when I tell the clas to tidy away, if he sees others not doing this he will physically push, pull, pinch, force them to even though he is not doing as I have said. Or has any closet writer out there written some? Helen Sharp

I have to go to a Maths network meeting and each school has to take a good idea for making a problem solving interactive display for Mathematics. The idea is we take one activity and then share them. Any good ideas?

Hi was just wondering if anyone could help me. Tommorrow (i know i'm a bit late) is our "new" parents evening, where the parents of the children coming into my class next year come to school. I'm an NQT and next year will be my 2nd year teaching reception. Although I attended this meeting last year as I had just got the job the head didn't make me speak. However this year I know he will and I am just very nervous. As I am not a parent I am unsure as to what they will want to know - i don't want to bombard them will curriculum stuff etc. Have put together a powerpoint of photographs showing what we've been doing this year but just not sure of what to say. Any ideas …

Hi! I need some help please and hope that i have come to the right place!!! I am teaching in recepetion and am keen to find out how other teachers run their weeks - am planning a new topic for next term - At the Farm and have loads of great ideas for activities - but how does everyone carry directed activities out within their classroom - without ending up with a standard 3 part lesson (intro, activities and plenary). This is the way i am most comfortable teaching, however i am aware that this is not reccomended in reception and i am thereore trying to adapt my provision. i am aware that some people have a carousel over the course of a week to ensure that all childr…

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for this problem - I teach reception in a double reception unit, and a child in my class who is autistic, has developed a huge fear of a child in the second reception class (who is also special needs and possibly also autistic). The second child once hit him, and later on has tried to initiate contact with him to play, but the first child is terrified of him, and will climb over a teaching assistant to get away from him if he comes near. Next year in Year 1, the liklihood is that both these children will be in the same class, and I am just wondering what strategies to use to prepare him for it.... sad situati…

Outdoor Area

I've been given a job by my head to try and sort out our outdoor area. At the moment it is rarely used - tarmaced area (that unfortunately has had glass smashed into it and its not easy to sweep it all up!) with a grass slope that is quite severe. I have started doing more things out there - maths game with numbers hanging from the bushes etc. and the children loved it so really want to make a lot more use of this space. The area that I work in means that we cannot leave any thing outside on an evening because it will get stolen and damged or used for not very nice things!?!?!?!? We have just invested in some light weight plastic climibing equipment that can be …
