Just looking for peoples opinions on this... My school has a policy of getting children to write the learning intention on each piece of work. In reception where I teach, its pointless trying to get the children to write it, so I either write it myself which takes ages with 25 books, or I type little strips, and stick them (or sometimes the children stick them) onto their work. I can see the reasoning behind doing it, but sometimes I feel as though I am spending all my time doing things which are a bit meaningless to the majority of the children I teach. My books are monitored this week and I am sure I will be pulled up on either lack of work in them or learning…

Hi! I wanted to know your opinion based on your personal experiences. In our school the idea of working as a 'unit' from BTTM to Reception seems to be coming, not completely as a real physical unit.. but in the planning. There is the idea of using the same topic for 3 years in a row... not only on special holidays like Welcome Back to School, Harvest, Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day or Father's Day... but also in themes like: Bears, Minibeasts, The Zoo, The Sea/Under the Sea, and the seasons. My worry is the following: If the topics are used 3 years in a row... have you experienced that when they get to Reception they get tired of the topic? I have thoug…

Hi there, was hoping anyone would be able to give me some inspiration for my role-play area. I am ususally o.k with these but next tem my topics are a bit bitty as i am covering a few weeks on bears and few on seaside. Therefore not sure what to do? Thought about a cave-but not sure where to start and what the children would do in it for that long! Does anyone have any photos of a cave they have done before? Other than this what do you think i could do? I have read, and contributed to the long thred on this in another forum and really liked some of the ideas (especially the school idea). Do you all always make your role-play areas linked to your topics or not?? …

Hello Everybody I have to be observed for a new post of phase leader. I have to teach a reception class for half an hour. No focus given. What can I do that will really impress them. My heart has always been in foundation stage but I have worked in Y2 for the last 3 years and I am worried will pitch it too high and with only half an hour I can't afford to mess it up. Please advise me I am a bag of nerves. Gillie

Maybe some one can help me? We have a new head who has taken on the PE co-ordinbator's role in school. To cut a long story short, he has made it quite clear that the way that we have been using our hall time (or should I say, using the large apparatus) is completely wrong. Please could someone let me now how they go about using the benches, mats and climbing frames and how do children access them? For example do you use mats and are children lined up in small groups or do they access the equipment from all angles all at once!!!??? Zoe xx

i wondered if anyone can help????? I have spent the whole of this weekend looking at my threshold application and am still no further along the road. I wondered if there are any other reception teachers that have recently filled in the application form and give me some advice. Does anyone have a form that I could look at for some guidance or does anyone know of any websites (apart from teachernet) where i might find some help. also, can anyone who has been through this process recently tell me what to expect. My headteacher seems to think that an external assessor/ moderator comes to interview me but I think I've read somewhere that this is no longer the case????? Any hel…

Inspiration Needed!

I am ( if a little prematurely) thinking about our September intake and need a new and gripping theme to link our learning too. We cover celebrations, buildings, toys, bears, plants and animals through the course of the year and usually kick start the new year with 'ourselves / our school' Frankly we're bored of it and think all in the team could do with new inspiration - we also have a large group of boisterous boys coming in... what themes do members use in September time (We have an Early Admissions unit) and what has gone well for you ? Many thanks, June
