There seems to be an awful lot of very expereinced people on here so I'm hoping somebody has the answer to my problem. I'm the teacher of a 39 place nursery, staffing wise there is is me and 2 nursery nurses and a very mixed group of just 3 to nearly 5 year olds! We are having a massive problem with our boys, especially a group 6 of the older ones. They are so violent and disruptive! The best way I can describe them is a pack of puppies, jumping on top of each other and play fighting continously! They don't seem to respond to any of the strategies we have put in place so far, we give lots of postive praise, have an outside area with lots of large physical oppertu…

Help! I have been teaching a mixed age reception / year one class now since NQT 3 years ago. I have tried hundreds of ways to make this work, I still can't....The children are all happy, the parents are happy, the Head is happy. I am not.... and cannot keep the pace going much longer, but as I have not taught a straight year one class I really have no comparison. Better the devil you know? I used to think the children got so much out of a mixed age class but I wonder if I have been fooling myself...the reality it that there is not as much time and input given to YR, in my opinion, to reach Y1 because I do not have enough time. The Y1 are constantly trying to work / liste…

Hi I'm hoping that you will be able to assist me. I am currently putting together a presentation on ICT in EY/Yr1 and whilst I have my ideas/projects I was wondering if you would be willing to share how you use sound/video/pictures across the curriculum and any software (free/paid) that you use. I can then hopefully use it to inspire others! Many Thanks in advance!!

Scaffolding Writing
by Guest- 7 replies

I was at an Early Years meeting last week when the adviser talked about scaffolding writing th Russian Way. This seems to involve repeating what the children want ot say and then marking it out with hi lighters. We tried in school and were amazed with the positive results. Unfortunately we know very little about it and are trying to find research or books on the internet with no luck. Does anyone use this or know what I am talking about and can point me in the correct direction please.

Hi Just wondering if anyone has experience of doing class assemblies? Although I've been teaching ages Ive never had to do a class assembly for parents before. What works well? Our topic is all creatures great and small. I have a Reception class who are sweet and quite a few were confident in the nativity play. I wondered about acting out a story but it may be too complicated? Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks

Well done to the National Trust for highlighting the need for children to be outdoors! If you have a good outdoor area and if you use forest school you will be able to tick off a lot on this list for your children! The list 1. Climb a tree 2. Roll down a really big hill 3. Camp out in the wild 4. Build a den 5. Skim a stone 6. Run around in the rain 7. Fly a kite 8. Catch a fish with a net 9. Eat an apple straight from a tree 10. Play conkers 11. Throw some snow 12. Hunt for treasure on the beach 13. Make a mud pie 14. Dam a stream 15. Go sledging 16. Bury someone in the sand 17. Set up a snail race 18. Balance on a fallen tree 19. Swing on a rope s…
