HI everybody, I need your opinions & knowledge on this one... When you are working with a group of children, e.g. in a guided writing session, do you allow them to use key word cards? E.g. lists of words which they can copy to help with their writing? Don't want to give my opinion as I want to know what you think. Thanks very much, Dianne

Hi! Over the last few years I have taught a wide range of different phonics structures! letterland, pips, the new playing with sounds, code-breakers etc! All good and all have strengths! However the one thing I have real problems with is the actual pace of teaching my reception children. None of the above give a timetable of events..i.e where I should be by Christmas! I know I should use my teaching "wit" but I really fidn it difficult to plan (yes this is part of the problem!) long term with phonics! Any ideas much appreicated! Hope it makes sense, just got up and someone has nicked a hour of my life!!! Well back to planning........

Hi everyone I was hoping that you may be able to offer some advice on planning a sequence for speaking & listening. I have to do this for a college assignment and for a placement though Im unsure about how to set out the sequence in terms of how long I say I am going to focus on one objective for. Im planning to have a tight focus each day for s & l activities for example at the end of the day.... Does anybody have advice on how to go about the objectives? Thanks and sorry for sounding stupid

I have been searching the net, to no avail for a jolly phonics sheet that i came across some time ago during my teacher training. As i can't find it i am hoping any one could help me. It is a single 'at a glance' sheet that has all of the actions on. I am still learning this programme and would find this extremely useful. Hope someone can help, or direct me as to where i can find it. p.s it isnt in my jolly phonics manual!

Teaching Rhyme
by Guest- 26 replies

Hello I have just become a member and there is so much useful stuff on this site! I am in my second year of teaching and am in a Reception class. When I was doing my PGCE I remember reading lots of stuff that said it was very important that children could identify rhyming words and make up rhymes before they went on to trying to hear individual sounds in words. Has anyone got any good ideas about how to teach children to do this, as most of my class seem not to be able to identify rhyming words when I read them nursey rhymes? I would be very grateful for any ideas!
