Hello again, you may all remember me (or not !) from last year re an incident with my son at school. Finally able to give you an update. The appeal panel although sympathetic, basically said that they couldnt set a precident(apols if spealt incorrectly) with my son as it would lead to other requests. So an in-year move to the nearer school was impossible and I wouldve had to wait until the end of year 2 before starting another in year appeal. Things did improve re my sons confidence ( he started to tell them what and when things where happening) though I still had to ask for the child whom assaulted my son to apologise which they werent going to do as "too much time …

Phonics Schemes

Does anyone know of a good set of phonics resources, preferably linked to letters and sounds that are available for purchase (rather than having to make your own from online downloads). My school is looking to renew its phonics scheme but we're not sure what to go with. The only thing we know is we don't want Read, Write Inc or Jolly Phonics! Ideally I'd like to see a huge set of decodable books bought (but which ones?) that link to all the phases of letters and sounds as well as additional resources as I feel there is no point in buying a whole new outside phonics scheme when letters and sounds is so good. The problem is we need something that we can just buy and get eve…

Hi all I know it's early but I want to get my starting school booklet ready over the holidays as we have the new entrants meeting next term. I am wondering how you start your children in September? I have changed it so many times over the last 6 years. I finally thought I had got it sorted for two classes and it was working well but now it looks like we may have another class. In the last two years during the first full week one class has come in during the morning and one in the afternoon - swapping some time mid week. This has been fab because although all 30 started at the same time we had 4 adults to support and you could see how the children got on as a w…

How do you organise lunch times with regards to going outside with reception class? Do your children mix with the rest of the school or KS1? Do they continue to use the outdoor area? If they do use the outdoor area, do they use it in the same way as they do during the rest of the day, or do you adapt the provision for lunch time? Thanks for taking the time to share how you do things xxx

We're doing a seaside topic next term and I'm trying to buy some postcards with pictures of the seaside on them for use in my class. The problem is I can't seem to find anywhere I can buy them in bulk. Obviously they would be available in shops at a seaside resort but the cost would soon add up if I bought a bulk amount. I know it's a long shot but does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might be able to get some? Thanks.

Eyfs In School

HI all Just a query as to if things are different in schools compared to pre-schools and for example us as a childcare registered out of school club. Do you as a pre-school or reception class as part of the school have to follow the welfare requirments of EYFS? eg space requirements. If early years or reception are in a certain classrooms and yet they have no limit to the numbers of children due to space as the school does not register the setting for childcare. Is this right? I was worried at one point as we have to tell OFSTED about extensive building works etc but as it happens it hasnt affected the OOSC as we are still able to use the rooms (apart from easte…

Hi everyone, I am currently doing my dissertation on the transition from foundation stage into key stage 1: the issues with it and its effects on children. Any information would be really helpful. If your child went through it and found it difficult? Or If you are a teacher and think there is issues with the process in your school? or What procedures are used? Thanks Rachel

Evidence For App

Is there a set number of pieces needed? I was always under the impression that like profile evidence it was on the teacher's judgement to say how much was 'enough'. Recently though I've heard different set numbers. How much evidence are other teachers expected to have for each APP point?

Eyfs/y1 Application Help

Hi all I am about to apply for a full time job in a mixed EYFS/Y1 class in a small school. I would really appreciate advise on completing a Personal Statement. My main concern is putting something in about teaching a mixed aged class because at the moment I have a class of 30 EYFS children. I have worked at the school for 19 years but only taught for 4, so it should be obvious why I want a change! Am I mad moving to a small school? Please any advise would be great. Thank you Brownie
