Collaborative Talk

Does anyone have any ideas on using texts to promote collaborative talk with a small group of reception children? My role is to help the children take control of the talk and to work independently. I then have to consider the role of talk as a means of developing children’s interaction with texts. I have thought of using a story sack or doing some type of drama but would love to hear any ideas that have worked well for you. This will be my first time in a reception class so any help would be appreciated.

Reception 'curriculum' Policy?
by Guest- 0 replies

Hi Everyone, I am an NQT working in a school at the moment and we are starting everything from scratch - from planning and assessment to writing our policy. I had a brief look in the sample policies but they seem to be for more of an early years unit - as most of those are covered by other policies in the school such as behaviour and child protection. Does anyone have any experiece / tips for writing one as the current one is a cut and paste jobby out of the CGFS Thanks Ladybug

I have had twins and triplets in my pre-school before and not had a problem. The parent of the twins I have now is a problem. We regularly make observations and record them on the childs profile and often when we get time record their achievement in the childs news book If we make a comment in one of their books she automatically asks why the other did not do the activity. My reply to that is that she had no interest in that activity at that time. Our children have free access to all activities presented on that day so they sometimes take a creative activity home. Work that can be folded flat goes home in the childrens folders. On Friday the children made a hat by drawin…

I am looking for ideas of how people use their outdoor play areas.... inparticular ideas for defining different areas. We have quite a large area ... part concrete slabs and part grass with a pirate ship in the middle.... the problem I'm having at the moment is no matter what we put outside the children use it as an area to run up and down screaming and shouting. I want to develop the play out their and know that children do need to let of steam but also want to have set areas outside. So what I relly would like suggestions about is how to section different areas off safely. Does anyone use removeable fencing or barriers? If so what and where did you get them f…

Louis Braille

I've been told that for my final history topic (others already planned) I can do any famous person from history and I've decided to do Louis Braille, as he really fits in well with the Ourselves and the Senses topic we are doing. Has anyone ever taught this great man before? Or does anyone care to share some good ideas? So far this weekend I've decided that obviously we are going to be looking at Braille (going to try and get hold of some) and I've got a copy of the Braille alphabet, so will make words or our names with that alphabet. I thought we could do some tactile pictures and do lots of blindfolded trust games. I'm also hoping that I can get someone with a guide do…
