Hi, I don't know if I am suffering from half term mental block but I am struggling with a bit of a problem at the moment. I am currently Acting Head at my school (small Infant school in Derbyshire) and I have just advertised for a new teacher in Reception from September. Governors (and myself) would like candidates to do a short task with a group of children which would enable us to a) observe interaction with children, make some judgements about preparation, resources provided etc and c) allow us to see how candidates reflect and evaluate on their own performance. I am trying to think of a simple task that will allow us to assess these things but which will not be to…

Hi, From September I will be taking the morning nursery only. The interviews for my afternoon position are being held in a couple of weeks. The head has just asked me to write down some questions for the interviewees! I've put down all the usual stuff about the foundation stage etc etc. but I'm struggling a bit for other ideas - probably because I was put on the spot and didn't expect to have a hand in it at all. If anyone has some suggestions I'd be very grateful. Thanks

Reception Class

Hi everyone! I am really excited about starting my first teaching post (in reception) in september. I never stop thinking about all the things that i need to organise. I would really, really welcome any ideas from the more experienced out there on things like what self registration ideas you have in your reception class (such as apple names cards to go on a tree!) and the names you give your differentiated groups-e.g as opposed to just colours! I love all these aspects of being in reception but would love to be inspired by any of you!!!! p.s do all reception classes have a staggered intake? XXX

Converting Fsp To Nc Levels
by Guest- 29 replies

I hope this works, it's my first message. I'm in my first year of teaching and I'm starting to stress about the FSP. I am filling them in (but not by e-profile) and gathering evidence as required. However at my school these are not sent home therfore I write reports as well - not sure if every does anyway. How do I then use the information from the profiles to help the transition up to class one? IS there a spreadsheet or excel package to use to enter the statistical information to help with leveling? Not sure if any of this makes any sense. If anyone can interpret this message please reply. Thanks

Job Application

Hi I'm currently on my final placement of my PGCE and, like most students, are looking for a job. I specialised in early years and would love to work in a reception class. Problem is so far I have had no luck with my applications and I wondered if anyone could offer any advice or hints? I recently gave my letter of application to my tutor/teacher and she said it sounded good. Is there anything I should definately have in it? Also when writing applications a lot of them have a section labelled 'Supporting Statement'; my lecture said to put all my expereinces etc in my letter of application and to write in this section 'see letter of application' Is this the rig…

I am just about to finish my NQT year and have been teaching year one. Due to vacancies becoming available at my school and them not being filled with people with experience of the foundation stage my head teacher has decided to move me into reception. I am quite excited about this but at the same time really scared. It seems like a huge responsibility and a big change for me in the way I work, plan etc. Has this happened to anyone else? or does anyone know of a good book I could read? please help!

Advice Needed Urgently

A parent came to see me today and claimed that her child has changed from 'an angel' into a 'naughty little boy' since he started school and I am to blame apparantly I dont teach them please and thank you, instead teach them to lie, snatch, hit, cheat, and wet themselves!! After chatting this through with the head and deputy I was albe to laugh but I still feel very hurt. This of course is not true and I do insist on please and thank you. My opinon is that the child is very much attention seeking, rude, and cannot cope socially with other children. Any ideas on how I deal with this kind of parent attitude and the childs on Monday morning? Please ....... …
