Catholic School

Bit of a long shot probably, but, does anyone teach in a Catholic school and use the REvision 2000? The lesson suggestion for this week is:- Encourage a brief 'quiet time' when the children say something they want to say to Jesus. The teacher may start them off with a phrase such as: "Jesus, we're glad you're with us" and children continue "Jesus we're glad ....." adding their own endings. We have just 'done' Jesus going back to his Father and saying goodbye to his friends but promising that he'll always be with them. I'm really stuck for ideas on how I can make this interesting/enjoyable/ understandable for them. I have visions of …

I have been asked by the head to pull together 2 booklets 1 with information to new reception parents and 1 for the new entrant children to complete before they start school. I have a fairly good idea on the format for the parent one but not idea for the children's one. it needs to include things like drawing pictures, writing names, counting etc. Oh yeah the draft has to be in by half term!!! if anyone has any ideas or a copy of one I could look at I will be forever grateful Thank you kate

National Sure Start Month
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone is getting involved with national sure start month in June, and was also wondering what your plans are. We are planning to hold a teddy bears picnic on one of the Sundays (thought it would be nice to include our parents who work 5 days a week) We will also be having fancy dress parties, a health week, a benefits advisor in to talk to parents, a pyjama party, and among other things, Jaffa (the sure start mascot) will be making an appearance aka one of nursery nurses! As we are a new neighbourhood nursery now 2 months old, we are hoping that alongside spreading the sure start message to parents and carers, this will enhance our existence…

Outdoor Areas
by Guest- 14 replies

Hi all, Just got in from a meeting with all our FS staff re the outdoor area. We're lucky enough to have a large Nuresry/Reception area which is part concrete, part grass. We have a climbing frame, slide, swings, even a hill. But what we don't have is a shaded area. Our meeting this evening was about how we can develop it and add somewhere for the children to go in the summer when it's very warm. We talked through a number of possibilities and decided that the best idea would be to have retractable awnings all along the side of the classrooms. I'm wondering if anyone here has done this, what it cost and where you got the awnings from. We also want some kind of 'l…

Ofsted Inspection
by Guest- 9 replies

Help! We have an Ofsted inspection beginning 24th May. I have only been teaching in Reception since September, (taught y3/4 before that) and I'm really nervous about it. I only have 15 children, but I don't have any classroom assistants, or nursery nurses - it's just little old me. I have a Nana who comes in Wednesdays and Fridays every week, but she's off on holiday the week of the Inspection- Sod's Law, I guess. Normally, I do a sort of Literacy hour session, first thing, then a sort of Numeracy hour later in the morning, then practical stuff the rest of the day, with the children choosing activities when they're not working directly with me, or in small groups i…

I am teaching in a reception class and we use Jolly phonics in nursery and reception quite successfully. Our school has decided to introduce THRASS and want it to be used across all the stages of school from N to Y6. We are NOT happy and feel it is not appropriate for use in foundation stage. Has anyone else used it in receptipon or nursery? If so, how? We need convincing as we have argued that we need to use Jolly phonics as well but we have been told we can't use both. HELP!!!!!!

Reception Dance
by Guest- 8 replies

Can anyone recommend a good dance scheme of work for reception? I really struggle with my dance lessons. I don't find it difficult to think of content, my biggest problem is finding suitable music. So I would like to find a scheme that includes a music CD. I have used TOP dance, but it is extremely limited for reception. I have heard that there is a new scheme specifically for Foundation Stage devised by a school of dance in London(??) Does anyone know anything about this? Help! Shelley

Houses And Homes Topic

Anyone have any ideas for this topic. At the moment I'm doing a foundation degree and this is what our group has chosen for our presentation . As I'm ks2 trained I'm short of ideas. As we will be painting a picture of our homes, (after talking about different houses) e.g. bungalows, street houses etc, I need to display photographs and posters. I can easily go around local area with camera, but any ideas for posters? Suppose I could always try estate agents. great site by the way.
