Hi everyone. I have a bee in my bonnet about the outdoor area at the moment. In the warmer months it looks lovely, fully set up, colourful signs and pictures everywhere, clean and tidy etc. At the moment however, it looks tatty as signs and pictures have blown about, or got wet and soggy, and horirble dirty leaves are all over the concrete no matter how long we spend tidying them. It just looks grey and dull out there. Anyone want to share how they keep things bright and fresh at this time of year? Or share any photos? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hi I have a level 3 diploma in preschool practice and have over 5 years experience working in a reception class in an international school in Switzerland. I would like to know what level of responsibility a similarly qualified practitioner would have I the UK. Would someone receive a salary increase on achieving their diploma . .. Ie I had no qulaification to begin with and now do... But with no increase in salary.. Is this fair? I would love to hear what similarly qualified staff do in their setting. Thanks everyone. County X

Cars

In my class at the mo there is a large group of children who sit at opposite ends of the floor and push cars to one another often crashing them. I dont mind this at all but it is very noicy on the floor and sometimes find it could become a health and safety issue as it is in th middle of the room where people are walking. The boys will move onto the carpet when asked but tell me its not as much fun cos the cars dont go as fast! bless them. The question im asking is....this is thier intrest and I dont actually know how to develop it. I sat with them for a while once ,extending it into making a brige and a ramp for the cars but they soon went back to the floor pushing t…

Observation, Please Help!

I am being observed for an interview in a year one/two class. The observation is only 20 minutes and I need to demonstrate my approach to the teaching of writing. I'm completely stuck as 20 mins doesn't seem long enough to introduce a topic and get the children to actually write anything meaningful. I would usually lead up to writing with lots of drama and language activities as well as looking at the features of that writing over several days before hand. Do you think I need to have the children actually writing within this 20 mins? I'd be grateful if anyone had any great ideas they could share.

Hi I teach reception and so far there have been no issues with children at lunchtime. I now have a child in my class who is quite a confident little girl who has been sick almost every lunchtime for the last 3 weeks. At first I sent her home straight away thinking tummy bug but mum has since decided to tell us 'oh she's always sick when she's anxious' so I've not been sending her home and being determined to get to the bottom of why she is so anxious. We had a couple of days where she ate her lunch in the classroom with me-still sick, I've tried sitting her on her own table set back in a nook that we have in the hall with a friend (still sick) I've done a social story for…

Hi everyone, I am a graduate teacher (GT) on placement in a nursery children aged 3-4. Our topic this term has been bear stories. To end the topic I have planned to have a teddy bear's next Friday. The children will be bringing in their teddy bears and we will be making sandwiches, cakes etc. We will have our picnic at the end of the session. I am looking for some other activities and ideas to use around the classroom, on this day, linked to bears/teddy bears picnic. Have any of you done this before? What activities worked well? Any ideas you have greatly appreciated Thank you in advance Jo jo

Love the Forum so hope someone can give me some advice. My daughter's best friend was called into the school as there were concerns about her son's progress at school. After being professionally assessed she has been told he has auditory memory difficulties (looked on line so wonder if it is auditory processing disorder). Actually none of this has come as a surprise as we all thought there was something wrong. He started his second year last September. He has difficulty with remembering especially verbal instructions and she has been told to make visual routine cards to help at home. She is really worried as he is below average at school and has been told that he mi…

Foam Floor!

Morning everyone - I hope someone out there can hElp me with a problem I have with my outside area. I am lucky enough to have a lovely outside area with a sandpit, tyres, a cosy corner etc - and my kids are in it most of the day when the weather suits because the floor is that terrible foam play tile stuff and it drives me mad! Can't use it when it's frosty , can't use it when it's wet, can't use it when it's too hot - it burns - aaarrrgghh. However recently the tiles have started lifting and now a significant amount of the tiles no longer lay flat and have in fact become a health and safety hazard - we have had someone in for a quote to lay a new floor and we just can't…
