I am reception teacher and FS co-ordinator at our 2 form entry school. We have been experiencing some difficulties with children in line with what seems to be happening nationally - poor listening skills, difficulty sharing/turn-taking etc. Talking one:one to some parents it seems children are not having regular bedtimes, watching inappropriate TV, going from pillar to post (breakfast club, after school club, other nurseries, childminders etc.) As our school focus is and has been for some time on accelerated learning and emotional literacy, we are planning a series of talks/workshops for parents of children who will be starting nursery and reception in September. Hello all I have been asked to resource and plan for some learning sacks to cover KUW, CLL and MD, for the children to take home and share with their parents. The maths and literacy I have lots of ideas for with number activities, shape, space and measures activities, phonic activities and the normal story sack ideas. I am looking for suggestions ..... I thought it might be nice to include all the Foundation curriculum areas. Has anyone ventured to do this before?...... or any suggestions of what I could put in them.... My budget is also really tight with about 50 bags to do Thank you for any ideas. Lorna

Last year, we had a maths advisor come into school to observe maths throughout the school. She gave us lots of ideas, was quite happy with the Maths in reception and gave me a sample plan for the three terms, suggesting I may like to use it for my planning. This year, as we've planned we've referred to that document and up until now it fitted in quite well with the ELG's. This week we sat down to plan the next fortnight's work. Got out the summer numeracy plan and were astonished to see that for the first week we need to do work on numbers to 20 - I'm posting a link to the documents I'm referring to, scroll to the bottom and find the downloadable Reception plans. …

Emotional Intelligence

I have just been inspired by Steve's quote " Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that peace must be constructed". I get so worried about all that time used for the literacy and numeracy hours...
