Hello I'm new to this, hope someone can help me! I have just been for a PGCE interview for an early years course. It was mentioned to me that I should have a look at the national curriculum for early years, she mentioned something like "stepping stones" but I cant find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a copy? I have the NC for Key stage 1 and 2 already and as Im starting a new job as an early years teaching assistant in January I want to be ready!!! thank you Libs

Anyone out there with any experience of Jolly Grammar, the yr1 extension to Jolly Phonics which so many of us seem to use. As the Literacy coordinator in my school, I would like to hear from anyone using this before I purchase it for others to use. If you don't have direct experience, what do the teachers in your school think of it?

Topic Books

I have started teaching the reception children from a mixed age class 3 days per week. In Key Stage One all the children's written work is compiled into a topic book (there is a topic each term) and then this is sent home to parents. i have been asked to do this too, but there isn't as much in it as the year one children's. There is a feeling of concern that most of the children have siblings in the school who did quite a lot of work on paper in the mixed class (this is the first year the reception children have been seperate). The children are mostly very able and another teacher commented that they would be able to do the year one work.. but I think the other teachers a…

Struggling In Reception Class

I don't really know if anyone can help me but I'm tearing my hair out at the moment. I've just joined a new school in September as a YR teacher, having been teaching YR for 2 years in a different school. The children in the new school are mainly 'middle class' and would have done well in a baseline assessment. The thing is, it's all very formal at the school and there's an attitude that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Well, I jolly well think it needs fixing, and I'm (cautiously) makine some changes. I think the head is "on my side" too, which helps. The problem really is that I'm stuck as part of the KS1 team, where last year I was Foundation Stage Co-ordinat…

I am a PGCE student in Reception. I am trying to think of activities that will encourage the children to use jumping skills. I introduced it last week and we played a game which involved the children doing different jumps- kangaroo, bunny, frog and mouse. How can I take it forward now? Thanks - (been up since 7 this morning planning for next week!!)

I've just started reading this forum. I work in a primary school without a nursery, as the Reception teacher/F/KS1 coordinator (for 6 years). Transition issues have been on the agenda for a long time. Will the new 'Enjoyment & Excellence' Primary Strategy change the culture in schools to enable hard pressed KS1 staff to adopt more informal ways of teaching and learning?

Hello to all If a child has a statement of special educational needs and has been given funding for 17 hours of 1:1 teaching is it then appropriate for the school to use the Teaching Assistant as the 1:1 while also doing the duties of a T.A? Thanks
