Hi Currently we use letters and sounds as a progression for phonics and feed a range of material into this progression. At present we are reviewing our phonics practise and one scheme under consideration is Read Write Inc. I was wondering if anybody uses this scheme and what they thought about it. Thanks J

Art Day
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi everyone, I'm planning an art day for the Summer term at my school and I need to come up with a really good name but the creative side of my brain seems to have given up. Each class is going to choose a different artist and learn about the artist and create work in their style. These will (hopefully!) be sold to parents to raise funds. Also we are going to cover the gym in paper and provide drawing materials then send the children in with shoes and socks off and let them do whatever they like! For the name of the day I'm thinking maybe something that rhymes and I'm going for a 'we're all artists' feeling to the day, so that could come into it but doesn't necessaril…

Hi all, i have just taken over as Maths Co (!) and have been given the task of doing 2 parents workshops!!! I am looking for some help with making a poster to show progession in Mental Calculation Strategies and have been able to complete all but the Early Years part. I am sure I need to talk about counting and number recognition, number bonds, counting in 2's, 5's and 10's as well as representing numbers through jottings etc but would really like to make sure that I have everything I need and find some pictures to model this for parents. Can anyone add to my list or give me a useful resource so that I can copy the images onto my poster? Thanks in anticipation! Jo

Hi All Like many people, I have been totally absorbed reading about Working Walls. I intend to start one tomorrow with my Nursery children. Our topic is Space, several of our children are interested in rockets. Can anyone suggest ways, in which parent's might be able to contribute to their children's learning? I work in an area of significant deprivation. Thank you all.

Hi Everyone, I am the Year R teacher in a Primary School. This year (with Ofsted looming!) we are going for consistency throughout the key stages and every classroom is to have a 'working wall'. I am a bit stuck as to what to do. Any ideas on what a working wall might look like in the Foundation Stage?

Hi everybody, As part of my PGCE I have to audit an area of provision and make an action plan to improve it. After discussion with the class teacher, she has asked that I look at the outdoor aarea. After a bit of surfing the web and going off on a tangent, I came across minibeast hotels or bug hotels. I just wondered if anybody had made one and how successful they were. Also is there a time of year when it is best to be made. I thought that this could be a start as there are no places to find minibeasts at presen,t as the main grounds comprise of soft surface and paving slabs. Any help or other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Trasong

Well you were all such a help with my last interviews i'm back again with the next two, at least I know my applications ok. Right I have been given this information: Introduction: 10 mins Count one less than a given number Main:Use coins to pay for different amounts (20 mins) - (Using 1p & 2p coins only) I have 16 children no support and obviously no idea what level they are at. Help this seems really formal for reception and much more structured than any of the other interviews I have done any ideas or advice would be welcome. Thank you.
