HI All & Tamara, How is your playing for year 1 approach progressing? As the Foundation coordinator in my school I have been working with the year 1 teachers to implement a less formal approach. We have the support of our head and the interest of the LEA, as we are the first school to brave enough to stick our necks out and say we are doing this! However, the teachers involved seem to be good at finding problems, have they been stuck in the formal rut for too long? We are a big 90 places per year group school. I've been following the threads here and those on the TES (sorry, I believe that's a naughty word on this forum!). I have a few questions. Do you teach the letter names only after the chn have learned all the 40+ sounds, or do you teach them at the same time? If a ch cannot identify phonemes do you continue showing them the letter cards when you teach the phoneme or do you teach them just the phonemes without the grapheme recognition? I'm not sure that makes sense to anyone but me!!! When you teach JP do you also teach the Pips games? I found that the chn loved the JP stories and actions and we could cover more phonemes and recap phonemes easily, whereas…

Does anyone know of some good PE schemes of work for Reception? The DfES website start their schemes of work with year one for all subjects. My LEA (Devon) has a couple of dance schemes for Reception but I have been unable to track down any for gymnastics or games. Dance schemes of work: www.devon.gov.uk/dcs Rebecca
