It is that time of the year when parents ask for class lists! We have always said we can't due to data protection and giving names out linked to classs/school etc are we being over cautious? we have a lovely facebook rant going on over this! Thanks

Does anyone have any good lesson/activity ideas for the Gruffalo? I would also like to construct a display on this. Any ideas?

Just wanted some advice really. I have started in my new job and am getting to grips with the resources. The reading scheme is all ORT and I would like to have some phonic readers rather than just sight vocab. There is some funding available but do I request the basic Floppys phonics to supplement the ORT scheme? There is a new Floppy Phonics sounds and letters scheme too- has anyone used it? What do you use for home readers? I know a mix is good but want children to feel they can decode most of the words!

Hi, A collegue of mine told me today that the Foundation Unit at the school where her little boy attends has a no running rule for the outdoor area. She said that she had heard the rumour before but actually saw the teacher this morning come out and tell the children to stop running around! She thought it was a little strange and so do I! Just wondering whether I've missed something? I thought the outdoor area was to be embraced as the place where child CAN do things bigger, louder and... faster (as long as they are being safe, of course!)? Hmmmmm? Green Hippo x

Hiya, its me again and I truely wish I wasnt back too im posting this to get a idea of how to approach a difficult head ( nice speak for one I dont see eye to eye with at all). Two weeks ago my son was assaulted ( his bits grabbed) by a year two boy. I was informed at pickup despite being told that my son was very distraught. His teacher had consoled him and said that he had kicked the other child. I was in shock and because presumably of my facial expression, the teacher said she thought the other parent had been told. I thanked her and left. All weekend I was worrying about what had actually occured. Due to previous incidents with another child (previous post r…

Hi everyone, I am being observed tomorrow in year 1. I will be doing a phonics session and have planned this and feel as ready as I can be. The session I will be observed taking will be the first session of the day and I will need to take the register. The children in my class are not great at coming in on time, some arrive at 10 to 9 and others after 9. This part of the day feels like wasted time with those who arrive early just sitting waiting for others. Do any of you have any great ides of things I can do with the children whilst waiting to do the register time fillers really. I was thinking of having a question on the IWB for them to think about but I cannot thin…

Hey everyone!! I moved backed to year 1 in September after a 4 year break during which time I was in nursery and year 2. This time around I really wanted to improve my year 1 practice especially since my EYFS experience. I have tried to implement continuous provision in that I have a writing area, maths, role play,ICT, construction etc. My children are quite good at independent learning and I feel that I am holding them back in taking their independent learning forward as I am still learning CP in year 1!!! How are people managing setting tasks for children to do while in the areas to prompt their own learning? How do you plan for this? Do you use pla…
