Hi all I wondered if anyone had any advice as to how best to take over a school nursery? Have an interview for eyfs lead and nursery teacher which starts after Xmas - just wondering if anyone has done this and has any tips or techniques? The setting I would potentially be taking on needs s few tweaks and changes to get it how I would run it but don't want to overwhelm or confuse the children! Want to be able to take some ideas to interview to share with head as to what I would do? Thanks!

Hi everyone I do hope everyone's school year has got off to a good start! I've just taken up the role of Early Years Leader and we have a couple of 1:1 support assistants who have never been in Early Years before. I have said I would do some training on Early Years for them but not to reinvent the wheel I wondered, before I started preparing something, whether anyone has anything they've used/found before that would be helpful? Thank you in advance if you have! :-)

I have a boy joining my new class who is Plymouth Brethren and wondered if anyone else has had experience of teaching children of this faith before. I know there are some fairly strict rules about meals etc. Any info would be most welcome. Thanks. x

I use big format books a lot and am wanting to get some new/fresh books for the new year. This is proving trickier than I expected as big book versions of good books seem to rather scarce. Does anyone have a particular source they go to to get big books? Or indeed, do you have a particular favourite that you have previously purchased as a large format book and so I could go and search specifically for that title in that format?

Hi lovely people, I wonder if you could help me. I have just received news that I have been shortlisted for the above post. I am currently working in a playgroup. For the class task: "we would like to know how you set up inviting play activities and how you then facilitate learning by interacting with the children." I am asked to base this on a well-known story and it should last ~25min. I thought I would like to base this on 'Handa's Surprise' and bring in a basket of the fruits from the story, printed out fruit labels, and a bowl, some knives and chopping boards. I was planning to check for allergies, then get the children to handle the fruit, guess the names, t…

Our HMI has just left, with a few passing comments about 'likely changes' to the next Ofsted inspection framework. One of them was a re-emphasis on the meaning of the term 'school readiness' for Reception classes - surely meaning 'more formality'. So myself and the Head had a frank discussion on what a ridiculous, narrow minded and backward decision this would be. Her view is what they say is what we've got to do, regardless of how we feel. My POV is that by having a stable mix of child initiated and adult initiated work we are already doing enough 'formality'...plus what exactly is 'school readiness'...surely in the EYFS we are already teaching and assessing positive …

timetabling phonics in

Hi, I am trying to think about next year and my phonics teaching. Normally I split my year 1 / 2 class so that the year 1s stay with me and those year 2s who are ready do phase 6 with my TA. This year this has worked really well as I had 8 in the TA group and just enough space for them to work outside the classroom. Next year my TA will have a group of 14 - which wont work due to spacing. I was wondering how others manage mixed age phonics. I was thinking of not having all the children doing phonics at the same time - but again I am not sure how this would work. Any suggestions gratefully apreciated. Thanks Emily

Moving to year 1

HI all Haven't been on here for a while. I have just come back from maternity leave (3rd child) and I am moving from EYFS to year 1 after spending 11 years in EYFS. I am still going to be a job share but with someone new. I was unsure at first but looking forward to it. The lady who I will be job sharing with has the same values as me and we get on. She has experience in EYFS as well. I am just looking for some ideas/advice on how people have moved year groups. I would like to take the EYFS ethos with me if I can and show how it could work in year 1. How do people do it? Thank you xxx
