Hey everyone I am creating a letters and sounds opening evening next term and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. We plan to explain phonics to the parents for Rec to year 3 so all the stages of letters and sounds will need to be covered. I have made a presentation for it but want to make it more fun and interesting.....what games etc do you think they may join in with without feeling silly lol...if any? Also I obv do not know yet how many people will turn up and could have a hall full. I have tried to find an online video where the phonemes are pronounced correctly but have not had much luck, anyone know of any? I am new to the school and hav…

Training New Reception Class

Hi there, can you help me ? I have a wonderful and lively class of four and five year olds who have incredible energy and vocal chords. I am looking for fun ways to encourage them to line up and walk in a line without overtaking each other. I am also interested to know of any tips to help them understand how to sit in rows during assembly. When I get the first row into position they have made gaps for the next row to join them. AHHH a little stressful and I'm aware the language I use should have some logic in their ears. I don't want them to start holding a skipping rope as some tend to start and stop to watch the reaction of others holding on ! With such dynami…

Hi everyone! I am an NQT in Nursery and I thought that I had done my displays lovely but the head sent in a key stage co-ordinator who is key stage 2 trained to come and take down all my displays and put new ones up - without me having a say. The displays that she is putting up in MY room are not (in my opinion) child friendly and certainly not friendly for a three year old! I was hoping that some lovely people on here could help me - could I see some pictures of your beautiful displays so that I could try and put some ideas accross so that I feel like it is my classroom still (obviously what I was doing before wasn't right). Please help - I am sooo close to te…

Anyone know a date of when it is actually going to be published. If we are ment to begin to make changes from spring would like the final version pretty soon. Cant find a copy of the proposed EYFS that was released in July. Kind of wishing I printed it now. Does anyone know were there is a copy on the internet? Deputy in our school was asking for one?

Hello I need help!!! and thought the lovely people on the FSF would be able to! I am new to nursery after being in Reception for past 8 years - and I know there isnt much difference but I am really struggling with my planning for Phase 1 phonics. I was generally able to start phase 2 when I got my new children and just had to keep a toe in phase 1. But now I am struggling with ideas and activites to keep the children motivated and with my planning sysytems and formats. Does anyone have any examples I could take a peek at? Can anyone out there help me - it would be very much appreciated!! Thanks

Could anyone clarify for me if parents should be able to access ALL info on their child? I am thinking about the development matters grids - we are considering doing one grid per key person with all of their key children noted, but obviously if we have to have this accessible to parents then each child needs a grid each? Sorry if this not very clear! Sandie

I moved to Reception from Nursery in September - Usually, children come in and its free choice however, some of the children have found it hard to settle and we've had lots of tears. In order to support these children we suggested they get a book and sit quietly for a few minutes, with an adult supporting. After a day or two most of the children came in and chose to sit and look through books - some still got out toys and this was fine, after quickly doing the register, I left the children to do as they wished, some got up to play, others stayed on the carpet looking thru books. The children are now settling well when they come in - most are still going straight for t…

Hi I've just finished my GTP & have my own class, I have inherited a reception classroom inclusive of lots of 'TOYS', the cupboard seems to be full of construction (there is a place for it I know, but that's all there seems to be) The draws in the classroom are well stocked but with games that need adult support......I'm having an 'is it me', moment, I think I'm struggling to get my head around the resources I have & the way in which I teach. I thought it may make me feel better if I knew what other out there are doing.....so I was wondered do you guys have a mix of resources, ie natural, home made items, linked topic boxes, sensory and tactile resou…
