Hi all I'm after some advice..... My friends daughter is starting school in september. Due to numbers there is going to be a Foundation class of 30 and 8 children (the older ones) will go straight into year 1/2 mix, bypassing the Foundation class! The class teacher has expressed her concerns about these 8 children not getting their full EYFS entitlement. Apparently the 8 children will stay in Y1/2 for the morning, to do literacy and numeracy and then move to FS in the afternoon to take part in free flow. My friend is an FS teacher and knows how wrong this is but doesn't know how to approach the head with her concerns. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Handwriting

Hello everyone! Just wondering what everyone does about handwriting practice? Last year each child had their own handwriting book. We would show them how to form the letters and they would copy in parrot fashion. We never liked this format as it was very mundane and time consuming. We stopped doing that this year and solely relied upon the children remembering ad practising through our daily phonic time. Having said this it doesn't always work as it is hard to ensure everyone is doing it right. As a result the children's letter formation is much worse this year! I can hear the Year One teachers tutting already and wondered whether anyone had any inspirational ways of…

Hi there, I am currently a Reception class teacher but from september will be in Year 1. The school are very keen to enhance the transition from fs to KS1 and I was just wondering if any of you guys could post any of your tried and tested ideas or things to include...eg resources, activities, parent involvement and understanding? I see the classroom very much reflecting the fs classroom until at least 1/2 term. But any good practice ideas would be greatly received!!! Many thanks in advance

I am doing an EdD with Sheffield University and my research project focuses on teachers' perspectives on inquiry in the classroom. The research is overseen by my supervisor, Dr. Rachel Levy and has been agreed by the university's ethics committee. Although I am working with a couple of settings in detail I need to collect the views of a wide range of teachers so that I can set my case studies within a broad range of perspectives. So I need help. I have attached a survey in the form of a word document which can be returned to me at chris@eatonbank.com It's easy to fill in, no right or wrong answers, all views gratefully received. If you would rather do it anonymousl…
