Does anyone have a 'crib list' for induction meetings; things to talk/ask parents? I will be doing my first in a few weeks, and would like to know what others include.

One of my colleagues has asked about staggered intakes- see below for query. Are any of you able to direct us to research, papers etc regarding staggered intakes??? Hi everyone, My governors are reluctant to agree a staggered start at the beginning of Reception without some evidence of the benefits. I have some research/papers regarding transition generally and home visits. Does anyone know of a specific paper or article about staggered intake or something that would compliment this like an Ofsted good practice article? Many thanks Sarah

Hi I wondered if anyone could offer me some advice. I work as an F2 teacher and next years cohort are a challenging bunch with a few children with SEN and others who are still developmentally immature. As a school we having been discussing integrating the Reception and Nursery and working as a unit with shared provision. We currently run F1 and F2 separately. We have 2 Reception classrooms, a large outdoor area and small shared creative area that come from a large open nursery area. If we were to change how we run the FS unit next year what things would we need to consider? Does anyone already do this and could offer some advice? How would we plan and ensure progr…

Help! I need a song about big and small for our assembly. I can't think of one and I've searched online for one but they are all a bit Americanised. We're doing when Goldilocks went to the house of the bears, and a growing up song, but I've been asked to find one just about big and small - has anyone got an amazing song !? thank you!

Hi all I'm having a big rethink about TA deployment in my FS classes in school. Thinking that TA's are spending too long attending to milk and not long enough working with children in the morning. I do appreciate that they chat to the children, check manners etc but by now feel the children should be accessing their milk independently. Just wondered if others would share how they organise the milk time. Mainly to check it's not me being a grumpy old woman! We all have our fruit snack as a class after break and use this for a whole class input time, PSHE chats etc.

Hi Everyone, I have been selected for an interview for an early years phase leader role. Part of the interview is to do a 10minute presentation on how I would lead the early years to excellence, what are the non- negotiables and where I would start to ensure maximum impact... I have some ideas but yours would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance! Jenny

I HAve an interview on Friday for a post as a teacher in charge of a language unit. This is a job I already do so I am confident in sign etc. But teh spread of ability, I have been told is from 16 - 25 months to 40 - 60 beginning in Reception and P6 to 2c in Ks1. All children, 12 in total, will be together. I was going to read, as requested, my chosen text 3 Billy Goats Gruff, but then I have to teach follow up. My thoughts are around re telling using teh finger puppets with teh younger children with teh objective of learning and developing new language whereas, with teh olde ones, re telling through role play. But what would a 16 - 25 month year old respond best…

Did I mention the incentive? So far there is a one in eight chance of winning a £50 Amazon gift certificate! It really does just take 10-15 minutes of your time, and would greatly help me out as well as contributing to research in this interesting and important area. I do hope that some more of you will provide your views. Thank you to all those who have completed the questionnaire already. The original post is included here for your information: Calling all reception teachers! I'm wondering how much opportunity for play there is in reception classes, and what factors influence this? I'm a former reception teacher and keen user of this helpful…
