HI Just wondering if any lovely people out there can help me. A very dear friend of mine has a ten year old son who is systematically being bullied both physically (hit, pushed, had stones thrown at him) and verbally ( called names and insults about mum) by one individual and although my friend has been into school and been very reasonable about the situation, nothing is improving.....another episode today I have said to ask to see the school's behaviour and bulling policy and to start complaning, asking why they are phoning her etc..... Can anyone recommend what she should do or shed light by sharing own experiences. My own personal experiences of the school have not b…

Hiya. I'm getting a new TA for my reception class and will be part of the interview process. It's my first interview, from the other side that is, and my head has asked me to think of any questions I want to ask but can't think of any. I have been given some that will be asked but can add to it. Any good ideas for questions would be great. Thanks Jodes

I'm wondering if anyone has a simple but effective way of telling/showing Reception children what a sentence is? I've got lots of children who can tell me I've forgotten to use a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop when I'm modelling writing, but who are still not secure on what a sentence actually is.

I was given the jo of producing a transition policy for our school which I did alongside a timetable of events to happen over a year to ease transition for our Reception children going into KS1. However the policy has been given back with some disappointment. The KS1 manager siad that they will not continue the profile for children not reaching he Early Learning Goals and she will definately not have play based activities in her class as she also hs year 2 and they will be top Reception going in so she needs to get level threes out of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Se said that the otherpure Year 1 sometimes has choosing but not as much as I have recommended in the polic…

Hi I just wanted to gain the perspective of teachers. I would like to compile some information that children could take to there new school to share with their teacher. Maybe a sheet with info and pictures on? I just wondered what sort of things woul be good to include and would it be worth while. (I am thinking more of them taking it to their first visit as formal documentation will be given to the schools when the child leaves the pre school) Thanks

Hi Everyone. I have an interview later this week (Thursday) for a FS1 job which would i would love.....so I have been asked to read a story and a follow up activity and so after much thought i have settled on 'Dear Zoo'. The activity is sorted, show children small world animals from the story and match up with labels through initial sounds, with support. We will then read story and then draw in crate shaped paper the animal which we would most like as a pet. I will then model how to fill in a letter with just the animal name we would like with opportunity to extend high flyers by saying why we would like this animal. I want to create a topic map to show how we co…

Just wondered if you lovely people would give your opinion? In the summer the current year one teacher is leaving the new year one teacher is coming down from KS2, has no experience of EYFS and hasn't done Year 1 for 7 years. I as the Reception teacher have been asked to support this teacher. At our school we current carry on EYFS in the autum term of year 1 and slowly transfere them over in a way to N.C. when the children are ready. I have suggested as the year one children know me, how about we remove the folding wall between the reception and year one classroom and spread out the continous provision so children in year one can have access. (currently year one has…

Our theme is 'Minibeasts', we start it on Monday and my obs is on the Wednesday.....I am really struggling to creat a fun, exciting lesson for the children. Well infact i had one totally planned out...minibeast detectives and going on a hunt but after further inspection our grounds are so dry there are no minibeasts anywhere!!! I can do the lesson in any area of the curriculum but thinking li…

Tyres

Hiya. I have just started at a new school and have some plans for the outside area which involve tyres. My new head has said that it's fine but did I need a risk assessment for them in case the children got rubber or anything else on them. We used them at my previous school without any issues or risk assessment and I've seen them for sale in the catalogues so don't know what to do. Do any of you have any ideas about whether I should have one or if so where I could find one? I've only been there 2 weeks and don't what to make a mistake esp as I have full moderation next week!!! Cheers Jodie
