Hi, I need some urgent advice, Does anyone know of any tips or help available for teachers of children who are gifted and talented? I have a boy in my class who has finished most of the Early Learning Goals. It's not just a question of 'starting the year 1 curriculum', because , although he knows all the Phase 2, 3 and 4 phonemes and graphemes, over 300 keywords, is confident with numbers to 20 and beyond and has a very enquiring mind, he cannot physically write because his hand control is so poor and he hates recording pictorially. He has available to him an appropiate Year R curriculum, complete with plenty of opportunities to mark make, but despite positive encoura…

Hi all, I hope someone can give me some advice as I feel like I am coming to the end of my tether with a particular boy in my class. I am an NQT in a small reception class and from the off there were problems with various children in the class, be it screaming, attention seeking and behaviour, all of which are gradually improving with these particular children. Then this term, I've really noticed another boy in the class (no problems really before, except some calling out) starting to be so silly on the carpet - pulling faces, making noises, constant shouting - distracting the other children who in turn think he is being hilarious and the giggles are almost uncontro…

Anyone else suffer from " helpers " who go to wait on their child and tend to be blind to the needs of other children in the group? Any tips greatly appreciated.

Hi, I presently work as a nursery teacher and have an up and coming interview for a reception post (which I would love). I am thinking of doing a very physical, outdoors numeracy activity using the speckled frog song involving recognising numbers and getting the children to identify numbers when we add one more or take one away through children moving between the log and pond. Its for 15 minutes just wanted to see what you kind people on the forum thought about this idea? Thanks

Hi all I am well into phase 2 and 3 with all my children apart from my bottom group, who just don't seem to be getting blending at all. Half of them are struggling to retain any phonemes so we are delivering a mix of phase 1 and 2. the other half are picking up phonemes but just can't blend. I have taught an autistic boy before that did not blend and just learnt to read by sight vocabulary. Just wondered what you do in your setting to help non phonetic readers or those just not picking up the letter sounds?

Hi everyone, I want to pick your brains. I have just recorded a chick hatching and want to put some appropriate background music on the video. First of all I have no idea how to do this and secondly, I need some ideas for appropriate tracks. Thought of chirpy chirpy cheep cheep, the birdie song, or I believe I can fly. What do you think? Thanks in advance Trasong
