Hi People say all the time that once you teach in a private school it is difficult to get a job in the state schools. I need some advice on how I try and persuade the school I am applying for to even look at my application. I am currently a Reception teacher and have been for six years and I am applying for a Reception teacher job so I do exactly the same job as they would do in a state school. Please give me advice!

Hi am new here - after doing numerous searches in the past month or so and the site being at the top of Google , I decided to join. I am hoping you can help me. I have returned to work after maternity leave and teaching Year 4 to teach in the Reception class. (I have taught Reception before though) The school I teach at has a nursery and we share the outdoor area. We sat down this morning to plan the outdoor space as it needs some improvement and we were both struggling to think of some continuous provision ideas for Mathematical ideas. We will struggle to buy anything new.....but have you any ideas? Thanks Jane

Hi can anyone recommend any stories that they have used that I could base a whole school assembly on around forgiveness? Doesn't need to be a religious story. Many thanks Gem

Apologies if this has been posted before but hereis the consultation for the proposed phonics sceening for year one children, to be trialled in 2011 ans begin in 2012. If you have an opinion on this, have a look at the consultation and respond. It would be good to discuss our various views here too!

Michael Gove has announced a review to the National Curriculum (primary and secondary). The review will:- * replace the current substandard curriculum with one based on the best school systems in the world and provide a world-class resource for teachers and children * consider what subjects should be compulsory at what age * consider what children should be taught in the main subjects at what age. You can find the DfE announcement here. The new curriculum will be taught from September 2013. There is a call for evidence which you can see here.

Sadly, it's the last day of the hols and having had a fab Christmas I have now got to get back into work mode! I recently took over as KS1 Literacy co-ordinator and am wondering how we should be planning Literacy in KS1 - my big dilemma is - As we assess using APP, should we therefore be planning from the APP statements or, should we be planning from the framework and the units and fitting APP to them? One of the things that worries me is, that although I have documents linking the framework to the APP strands, surely this is making work for myself and the other teachers who plan the literacy for their year groups and wouldn't it be easier to plan for APP as …

Writing Table Resources

I'm looking to liven up my writing table. At the moment I do have a core group of children, including a lot of the boys, who love writing and mark making. The thing is it's been the same for ages and it's getting a bit tired looking and I'm actually not very happy with it's set up. Does anyone have any pictures of their writing area or ideas they could share for livening it up? Anything you have in there that the children particularly love? (I need to keep it neutral really, these are year one children and I know the head would not be at all impressed if I put anything in there that referred to popular culture like Ben 10 - it's just the way it is so I need neutral th…
