Hi all, I'm a bit unsure as to what to have for the role play area in my reception class in Jan. I dont know the class yet so I'm not sure where to go in terms of their interests but im itching to get started and collect resources etc. I dont want to do anything too prescriptive even though I think our theme to start is Winter to start I would like to keep it quite open...does it have to link to the theme? At the moment the classroom has an indoor role play area and the home corner is outside..any thoughts on this?? Thanks so much in advance Rachel

Competitive Parents!

Evening I need a different perspective on a small problem I have!!! I have a smashing class of 15 of varying abilities but we do have a group of parents who are incredibly competitive and this is really impacting on my displays -my parents bring the children into the class in the morning and this group of parents are always looking around and asking their children which is their work and carefully eyeing up the work of others then going out onto the playground and comparing and commenting on the other childrens work. I believe in celebrating all work and I am finding it frustrating I thought about not including a name with a piece of work but children like to see their na…

Am doing Time in Reception and have covered days of week, months of year etc during carpet time but am going to sequence our school day/childs day and was wondering if anyone knew of pictures I could sequence as a starting point-key times in a day? Am actually taking photos in school of our typical day, which we will sequence once I have printed them off and we can hopefully also make a visual timetable together. Any more ideas on Time/Sequencing please?

I have been using this at school and my kids love it. When they write a letter to Santa on the writing table, I grab it and input the details onto the website and then play them their santa video message. Needless to say they all want to write a letter now!

The 'average' child, according to our management and KS1, would leave reception on ORT 4-5 haaving read at least 18 books at each stage. Is this realistic? What do you think?

Using A Wii In Class
by Guest- 4 replies

Whilst at moderation last year a few of the Reception teachers shared their experiences of using the Wii in class, using the interactive whiteboard as a screen. They were all very positive about it and named some of the things they had done. I was wondering though, whether anyone had used one and what they thought. Have discovered that my local computer shop sells re-condiditoned ones for £60 which is a good investment providing it works. Some initial ideas I had were to encourage some of my reluctant singers on the x factor game, my fine motor skill developers on Wii sports. I suspect the opportunities are endless!!! Any thoughts............................ Nick…

Can anyone help? Yesterday school was closed due to the snow. We have been told that we are not allowed to have our PPA time this week or next week due to 'having a day off'. Is this allowed?

Outside Flooring
by Guest- 5 replies

Evening all, I wonder if anyone has experienced this problem or knows what to do with a problem with my outside flooring. Six years ago, before I started my outside area was refurbished and completely laid with what I can only describe as 'rubbery' tiles. They are the biggest pain in the neck, and although they are really good if the children fall over we are really limited to when we can be outside. In the Summer months they get too hot and last year they even melted the bottom of the children's shoes. We got the paddling pool out and they burnt their feet getting in and out of the pool. And now winter has hit they are too slippery. The frost just lays on them …

Fruit
by Guest- 8 replies

I have read other threads about how people arrange their milk and fruit within their settings. My job share and I are having a few problems with ours... We run a 'milk bar'. the children have chairs around a table and they have their faces are stuck to the wall. they decided when they are going to have their snack - once they have helped themselves to a piece of fruit and milk they remove themselves from the wall so we know they have had their share. This is working really well for 19 children in class but two just keep helping themselves to as many pieces as they feel like. any suggestions? 1. I am concerned that these two children are actually starving h…
