Hi I really want to make gak - the runny, slimey, goo that children love to play with but I don't have any borax or liquid starch. Also, is it safe to use borax and starch? Have heard that you can use cornflour to replace the borax. Does anyone have a recipe for this or a similar mixture? thanks

I've got to do a class assembly after Christmas. Our theme for that term is Colour. Has anybody got any ideas or done a similar assembly? What went well. I'm thinking on the lines of the story 'Anna's Amazing Multicoloured glasses' - making our own based on our favourite colours. Thanks in advance. Just trying to be organised!!

Performance Management

Hi all, I need some advice about Performance Management. I am in Reception and was given my targets by my Head today. One of them states 'For 87.5% pupils to achieve level 7 in CLL and PSE'. I have 16 Reception children, and this would mean that 14 of them would need to achieve an average of 7 in these areas. Our children do come in slightly above average so this is probably possible. However, I strongly feel that it is not in the spirit of the EYFS to use profile points in this way. I wondered what other people thought and whether this is widely done?? I am planning to discuss it with her tomorrow!! Thanks!

Hi We have a real outdoorsy lot this year, having said that, they nearly always are and I think that is because all staff are so energised outdoors and instil a lot of enthusiasm for the outdoors. However, over the past 2 weeks as the weather is getting colder we are struggling to provide the children with constructive outdoor provision. They either stay inside because it's too cold or they come outside and muck about because we aren't providing what they want. When we ask them what they want, they tell us what we already have out! It's so much easier in the warmer weather when you can have table top stuff out and lay things out on the concrete. In this weather tab…

Do you use film or TV clips with your children to inspire literacy? If so, where do you get your clips from? How do you search for them? What have you used? What has been successful? Maybe. like me, this is something you need to do!

Cleaning Children 1 2

Hi, I was looking for some advice regarding children after they have had an 'accident'. At the moment we check that the child is feeling ok, and give them a clean set of clothes, and then speak to the parents at the end of the day. My school has decided that if they have had an accident (and not just wet themselves) then as staff we should clean the child with a wet wipe or lotion, providing the parent has agreed to this. I am a little concerned about this for several reasons. 1. I am not a mum - would I know what to do? probably but still 2. I don't want to be touching children there! firstly because I feel highly uncomfortable about doing it, and also I don't want an…

Supply Cover In Reception

Hi All, Does anyone now if this is correct? At my daughter's school she is in a Reception class of 30, which includes 6 year ones. The teacher has been attending a lot of courses and meetings and the class are being looked after by the LSA who is excellent, qualified to NVQ 2 I think . The second adult drafted in is always one of the SMSA's who have no qualification. Is that okay for 30 children to be with no-one who is qualified to level 3 or above?
