Wild Child - Advice Please! 1 2

Rather new to the Forum and have scoured the site and enjoyed many topics.... This is my first year in reception after 12 years in KS2. I have a class of 21 children (one with sever autism who has a full time TA) and one full time TA (three bodies in the class) One of my children (birthday in early summer so a young one) has had some trouble settling in. Well trouble is possibly an understatement. He took a while to feel happy about separating from his mum and dad but this does seem to have improved with our support and mum and dad's confidence in us. The problems that begun when he first started, we thought they may improve as he has settled, have only got worse...l…

Cpd Lesson Observations
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi I am a teacher in a recently opened early years within a primary school and I am being observed by the Head next week as part of my CPD. The usual form used by the Head for lesson observations is designed for KS1/2 classes and is not really appropriate for early years provision. Does anyone know of an appropriate lesson observation format for an EYFS class? Thank you Sorry I realise I have posted this in the wrong forum - oops!

Hi all. Getting really frustrated in school. For our PPA time we were assigned no cover, when I 'discussed' this the smt said we can have someone between the 2 Reception classes until half-term. She often doesn't arrive as sent to cover elsewhere. Toilets aren't in the class and and we then can't offer free flow, (PPA coincides with our outdoor slot). Also when someone is off in SMT say sort it our yourself within the eyfs despite other TAs in school doing photocopying etc. For short and long periods we are struggling, ie only 1body in each Reception class. What is happening elsewhere? Also our Nursery is 34 place full time. There is currently 1 teacher and 2 …

Hi As part of my PM I have decided to find out our parents views on the Induction process and Home visits in school. This year we seemed to have many more parents who wanted their child to start full time immediately not over a four / five week period. Has any one already done this before? I'm hoping that it will save me some time and give me some ideas on how to go about it. Thanks Ruth

Private Provision And Fundraising

Hello -we are a private pre-school. We are finding it financially difficult to pay adequate wages to our valuable staff and maintain all our equipment at the level we would like . The pre-school is owned by myself and another manager and we both work directly with the children ( on different days) we wonder if any of you private provisions out there fundraise for major purchases or would this be considered a big no,no due to PVI status ????

I feel that there ought to be 2 members of staff but our Head thinks otherwise. Does anyone know what the legal stance on this is? Thank you.

Hi all As a school we have identified that we need to help improve children's thinking and communication skills. We already do a lot of pair talk, talk for writing, Rtime, P4C. Does anyone else do other things that would help address this issue, across the Whole school or just in one particular year group?

Does anyone out there have any suggestions about software that is good for ICT lessons. I wonder if all of you teach explicit ICT lessons? I have half the class on wednesday mornings and have inherited the ICT suite at that time. In the last few weeks i have asked them to use paint, looking at mouse skills, confidence and knowledge but I am really not sure where to go from here. any ideas?

How To Teach Islam?
by Guest- 12 replies

Next term I'm going to be teaching about Islam and I'm already worrying about it as I don't feel my RE has gone very well this term! It's a year one class and we have to focus specifically on the Islamic idea of God so the idea of seeing which aspect of Islam the children are interested in is not going to work. I have no idea where to find resources or how to make it at all relevant to the children's lives. It's a none denominational school with 100% white British pupils in a white British community (no mosque down the road to visit in other words or Muslim parents/children to call upon!) Does anyone know of any good resources or ways I could teach this so it isn't co…

Appeal Children
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi, I was told by my Head today that we have to take the 2 children whose appeals to get into our school were heard yesterday. This is due to an error being made when the addmissions were dealt with and someone being offered a place that shouldn't have been, hence we have to take these two extra children. My concern is that we are a one form entry primary school with no Nursery, so I am the only Foundation Stage class. I already have 30 children and these extra two will take me to 32. I have a TA who works full time Monday - Thursday. We already have two children who we are trying to get statements for and there are several other quite challenging children in the clas…
