Hi All I've been a TES user for years but I've only just moved to the foundation stage forum, as I've never taught Reception before AGGGGHHHHH. So I have about a million questions. But I'll start with just one. So, they don't do writing in books, they do 'real writing' for 'real purposes' but how much evidence of this do you keep and where do you keep it???? Thanks xx

Communicating With Parents

Hi there everybody, Just wondered what information you give to your parents about what is going on the classroom, when do you give it and in what format? At present, we (Reception Class) have to fit in with the rest of the school by sending out a Topic Web at the beginning of each half term. I have complied with this up until now, but really I don't feel this is good EYFS practice. I would much prefer to send home information on a more regular basis and in retrospect - for example "This week we have been learning ........ This is how you can help ........ etc." We are not in the fortunate position of having a notice board where I could put up this informatio…

Hello everyone, Hope those of you that work in schools have had a restful summer. I am looking for some help as I have a mixed reception and year 1 class this year. I have tried to find a planning format that would incorprate eyfs and nc, but as yet have been unlucky. I would be very grateful if anyone has any advice on teaching this type of mixed class and / or has a past plan etc. Many thanks in advance. Jane x

I am in year 1, we are using science to lead our topics, to ensure coverage and have chosen the Ourselves/ Senses/ Sound to follow this term. We have the topic title "Marvellous Me" but it didnt really inspire the children last year and having seen the learning journeys from reception feel this could be a little samey to what they have already covered albeit a year ago. I need some inspiration please!

Have used this environment plan on a number of occasions. I have tried to keep it really simple. I encourage staff to use lots of cross referencing and not re- invent the wheel. It really prompts you to consider how and why your environment is the way it is - Oh, and Ofsted really like it. It is NOT the ultimate document andis in Word so that you can make it your own... Environment Plan Hope it is useful Alistair

I was wandering if any one could help me out. For the first time today I was introdced to Big Writing/Big talk. It is being introduced to our school. I am really interested in using these ideas in my Reception class this year but have no information or ideas. I live in the Channel Islands and am unsure of any teachers who have a lot of knowledge about this. Is there a book I could buy?? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

After years of washing toys by hand and failing miserably to get them clean, someone suggested using my dishwasher and......it's like magic! Have to admit, it's not as much fun as watching the children splashing around in the water tray with the bubbles, but it's much faster and a lot more hygienic!
