Teacher Blogs And Childrens Photos
by Guest- 3 replies

I have my own online blog which I recently started. I created it to record activities/crafts etc that have worked well in class, as well as a way of organising great ideas that I come across online. I have pictures of my students but have stuck a spot over their faces so that they are unidentifyable and therefore useless as a photo for copying. I do not mention names of children, nor the school. I have not asked permission from parents as I started this during the summer break. The parents have all signed consent however for photos to be taken of the children in school. My question is: Could this be considered a breach of privacy even if the children cannot b…

Setting Up Classroom
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi all, My classroom has been redecorated over the summer and it has only just been finished - so I have to go in tomorrow and try and get it set up (with my own 2 children in tow!!). It looks fab, we have a much larger wet area, new carpet, new sink, and IWB has been moved to a better place. Anyway, I'm really pleased with it but starting to panic slightly about getting everything sorted in time. Luckily we are doing home visits this week so the children aren't in till next Monday! I have been at home with my own children for the past few years so haven't set up a room for years. I am planning to have the usual areas - writing, creative, sand and water, mallable ma…

Role Play Area
by Guest- 2 replies

I normally set our role-play area up as a kitchen at the start of the school year, then it changes according to whatever our mini topics are, or what the children request, etc. I wondered if anyone has any other ideas for a good one to start with as I find it always looks like a complete tip with all the 'food', etc, just shoved in cupboards....! Thanks in advance.

At some point this year I'm going to have to do a history topic based around a famous historical figure - I have a mixed Y1/YR class. I can choose who I like really and although I won't be doing the full on history with the reception children they will inevitably get involved in some of it. So I'd like to choose someone who is accessible and interesting for them. I've only taught this unit with a Y1/2 class before when we did Florence Nightingale and Grace Darling (we really liked that one). I'm probably going to do a 'space' topic later in the year as my Y1s are interested in rockets and therefore thought about Neil Armstrong but wasn't sure about the accessibil…

I'm looking after our next door neighbours three little girls (5 years, 3years and 10 months) tomorrow for a couple of hours whilst their Dad visits their Mum in hospital. Has anybody got any quick but stunningly effective looking Get Well Soon card ideas that I could make with them tomorrow? Thank you in advance.

What Do You Teach In Foundation 2?
by Guest- 16 replies

Hi Everyone I am a teacher from New Zealand currently teaching in an independent school in the Middle East and following the EYFS curriculum. I had quite a difficult time coming to terms with the expectations last year, for CLL and PSRN. There was an expectation that the majority of the children would: have finished level 2 ORT know all letter sounds and sound blend know at least 45 key words write a simple sentence count to 100 add and subtract at least up to 10 begin counting in 2's, 5's and 10's Mostly in Australia/NZ this would be part of the year 1 curriculum. While a few of my children were definitely interested and ready for much of this…

Hi all, Just thinking about different 'experiences' I'd like to provide for chn and I'd like to provide them with letter-writing to another class in a school. We have 3x reception classes (Crocodiles, Lions and Tigers) and morning and afternoon nursery classes. Would love to swap pics - info of favourite games etc and make the whole experience of writing real. We will make visits to post-box/post-office. Limitless possibilities of what could happen. Would be great to display post on our notice board by our writing area. Let me know if anyone is interested. Would be ideal if it was a similar sized school in a very different setting (we are a city school in north L…

Teaching Reading
by Guest- 6 replies

At the risk of sounding a bit dim ( I think I'm rusty) any ideas on how to teach reading to children with speech and languge needs (some of whom cannot say their sounds let alone recognise them!). I ask as I am starting a new post working with children with specific communication needs in a first school and have just found out that they have a half hour reading session every morning. There are 12 children 5 - 8 yrs old and they use the Oxford Reading Tree. And before you ask, I have been teaching Nursery children for the past 5 tears, hence the rustiness!!!! The teacher who's leaving says that she does flash cards which I hate the thought of. Am so used to going wit…
