Hi I was wondering if some of you could please give me some new ideas for a group of childre to be writting for a purpose as a independant activity whilst I am with the other group of children doing reading/writting lesson. I have done things like wriing labels for models they are making, writing a list before going to the role play shop, writing a list of ingedients before we have made cakes, pizzas etc writting a card to some one (either birthday, thank you, sorry) but am finding it harder as the terms go on to think of interesting things they can do that will mean something to them! Any ideas would be much appriciated

EYFS Phase leader interview help - all suggestions gratefully receuved

Hi I have never posted on here before. I have applied for a job as EYFS PHASE LEADER and just found out that I have an interview next week. I'm really terrified as I haven't had an interview in five years. The group teaching activity is on the theme of families. That's all that I've been given do it's up to me to plan something exciting for about 20 minutes. The only idea I've had so far was to play some sort of large-scale visual simplified Happy Families (perhaps with tabards for the children to wear and get into different groups ) with different types of families to illustrate that all families are different and that's something to feel happy about. Hav…

Hello I am reception teacher and have applied for the phase leader (nursery, reception and year 1) job at my school, I have been lucky enough to get an interview! The headteacher has said: "You will be asked to develop a group of year 1 children's thinking by questioning them on a story of your choice" I assume, its the usual guided reading comprehension questions? I am unsure of what story to choose!? Anyone have any suggestions of a book that you've have found works well? Thank you so much!

Hi, I am confused about long and medium term planning - I thought it was more about 'moment to moment'/ short term or even daily planning now, but I'm not sure! Can anyone please share their thoughts about how they go about developing long and medium plans - do they change every year according to cohorts for example? Is long term planning the same thing as a çurriculum map'? Thanks (in advance)!

Have a school trip planned next week and we are walking as its local but will be a bit of long walk so we had the back up of the school mini bus if needed. But suddenly had a panic if we would need booster seats in the mini bus for reception ages children or if the three point swag belt is enough?

Advice needed for job application
by Guest- 4 replies

I am currently teaching in maintained nursery and have the opportunity to move to F2 in the same school. I have been asked to write a letter stating my reasons for the application. I am finding this difficult as it would be a move within school, so there is no job specification being given out; if there is more than one candidate there will have to be an an interview. Does anyone have any thoughts about what should be included or how much to include; I have been in the nursery for over 10 years and have no experience of teaching in any other year group since teacher training!

Hi, I am wondering how often you set Next Steps for the children in your settings/ schools? If you do have more than 1 year group in your EYs does your target setting reflect this (ie choose next steps in Prime areas in FS1 and Maths and Literacy in R for example) Some feedback we have received says once a term whilst others say every 2-3 weeks?!? Thanks!

Targets in Year R

Hi all I am struggling. I have to have individual targets in place for my Year R class in the new year for maths, reading and writing and the children must know them and be working towards them. Any advice on how I can do this? How do they work in your classrooms? How are they displayed. On the wall? In books? What language do you use with your children? When I have an observation, the children will be questioned about them and expected to talk about them. Any ideas/help will be gratefully received. Many Thanks Mackdebs

You may remember that I had a very negative EYFS visit a couple of weeks ago, so now I'm trying to bring my classroom up to scratch so she has less to criticise me for when she comes back next week. It's not easy as we're right in the middle of our Nativity at the moment and we've got a lot of illness in the school so lots of children missing too! She didn't think there was enough 'independent children's work' on display but my children are always desperate to take their precious work home, so we generally photograph/photocopy things which works well for work folders but not so well in display terms. Any bright ideas? Would especially appreciate something that takes no…
