Psrn Trolley

I have been thinking about setting up a trolley with lots of numeracy type resources on it to try and get the children interested in this area of learning. For years we have had a maths table/area but the children are just not that interested in going there! Even when we put new resources out like scales and stones/soil etc it it only seems to have limited appeal Anyway, I'm going to set up a trolley which will hopefully be bursting with lots of exciting resources that will support children in this area of learning during child initiated play. The trolley can then be rolled outside as well. The trouble is I'm finiding it difficult to think of PSRN resources that will get …

Hi everyone I just have to share with you this amazing document that I have read. It's called communication friendly spaces (you can find the video on teacher's TV, well worth a view). It's all about decluttering your classroom and keeping the colours neutral - a complete contradiction to mine and, indeed many classrooms. The idea being that children are more focussed and relaxed in this type of environment. I kind of relate this to my shopping habits! I hate shopping in places that are busy and rammed like TKMaxx but I love going into shops like Karen Millen where everything is orderly and colour coded and stress free (Not that I actually like buying anything from …

Display Ideas

Hi everyone, am thinking about my room for next year and thinking how I am going to ensure i have everything on display the powers that be reqire whilst still ensuring the environment is not too formal. We need to have a display with letters and sounds stuff on and one with current numeracy stuff on it. I am thinking this will help the parents to support their children at home and will also be hopefully interactive so the children gain something from it too!! However I also dont want two displays in my room to be just resources downloaded from websites and laminated - i want the children to have some input in these walls too. Am I asking too much do you think - my brain i…

Hi i am about to go into my 4th year of teaching reception. I usually plan using a carousel for literacy and numeracy. There are 4 activities 2 of which are adult led and 2 are child led. The objective covers ELG'S but often cover a number of areas. This has always worked well for the children and produced good results. The children complete 2 activities each morning and as the carousel runs over 2 mornings each of the 4 groups get a good 20 minutes with adults on the teacher led tables. The problem I have this year is that i have 30 children and will need 5 or 6 groups. I also feel that i do to much formal planning as i have to put in objectives and success cri…

Hello, I have just returned from a two week volunteer programme in South Africa. This has been something I have wanted to do but was highly emotional.I worked in a township school in a very poor area.Lot of children lived in shacks in township living on less than 20 rand a day about £2 .Many children had Hiv lost parents seen shootings living with abuse .Schools a lot further behind than uk ie still using corporal punishment one teacher to about 50 children. It amazed me how children had nothing but were so happy with so much more to give.I gave them gifts on last day chocolate tennis rackets pens paper etc and it was like they had won the lottery.I gave one child…

Hi I am moving to Reception and wanted to quiz you all on the use of word pots! The previous teacher taught jolly phonics and sent home word pots with high frequency words in! She then tested them weekly, giving out new words if they know the previous words! I am going to follow Letters and Sounds but trying to decide if I should use the word pot for tricky words and how to manage weekly reading? What do you do?

Just wondered if there were any EYFS leaders in school-based settings (with or without nurseries) who would be interested in sharing good practice. Always good to see what's happening in other schools - how it's set up, manages space, resources, planning etc. etc. I'm based in north london. It's very easy to get 'stuck' in the same routines ... Am happy to show others around our setting - 3 form entry school with am and pm nursery. Get in touch! Fluffy Lamb

I'm doing a workshop for new reception parents in September about the EYFS. I'm going to do a presentation with a talk and a powerpoint, but I also wanted to have some hands on activities for parents to do to experience for themselves some of the ways we work in the foundation stage. I really would like to have at least some of it outside - I'd thought about some kind of problem solving type thing like using available resources to get water from one water tray to another some way away, maybe some art using found resources... not really sure and haven't quite got my brain into gear at the moment.... ... so I wondered if you all had any exciting and briliant ideas? (I know…
