by Guest- 2 replies

Hi I need some inspiration. I am moving to Year 1 next year which means I am having my class again in September. We have move up day tomorrow and although we will be in the new classroom I'm not sure what activities to do with my children as I already know them! I want to give them a taste of Year 1 with a selection of activities but would like to have a little structure!

Hi, I'm leading INSET for colleagues on 'sustained shared thinking'! (Nursery and Reception) Was hoping someone may have a good link to video footage of it in practice or some other ideas/materials I may find useful. Thanks

Hi all, I have just joined the forum and this is my first post so not sure i'm doing this right. I have a teaching interview next week for a Reception/year 1 class. I have to do a 20 minute play based lesson which will extend the children's knowledge of their topic 'Our World'. I will have a group of 6 children. I thought of a few things but nothing particuarly exciting and unsure of the range of things that they will cover in this topic. Just wondering if anyone has done anything linked to this before, any activities that have worked well. Thank you

Hi I teach in a mixed YR/1 class and work closely with the YR class. We currently have lots of students both training to be teachers and TA's and I have been asked to produce a booklet to help support them. I was thinking of including: a short guide to the FS and the areas of learning including L&S different ways we observe and record our observations a description of our CP and how to keep it stocked etc has anyone got any other ideas - or produced anything similiar Thanks Rachel

Covered Outside Area

my school is investing in a covered area for the reception classroom and have decided on this company: http://www.pentagonsport.co.uk/timbercanopiesmaingallery they have been and quoted etc and it has been decided to go for timber framed but we are now deciding whether to go for 'open sides' or 'enclosed sides' the area doesn't need to be separated off with the enclosed side all the way around because it has walls on 3 sides but we are wondering if the slightly enclosed front would provide more shelter (it will still have a 2m opening) Can anyone offer advice/opinions and has anyone used this company before?

Child Initiated Computer Work
by Guest- 4 replies

My EYA and I are having a bit of a debate at the moment. When the Year R children are involved in their own learning during free flow times and we are doing observations , several of the boys choose CBBs on the computer and some of these games are typical fighting scenarios with monsters, mummys etc. My EYA is horrified and says CBBs should be banned and we should insist on Expresso and other more educational programmes. The trouble is, the minute our backs are turned, the more competent computer users are flicking onto the programmes they prefer. I'd like to know what other teachers think about this-how do you deal with Internet usage?

I wonder if anyone has any views on the best aprons for outdoor water play.... We use tabbards for painting because they are easy for the children to put on, but don't really do the job for water play when the children are unable/unwilling to roll up their sleeves! or they just fall down! or they have coats on outside! Does anyone have a recommendation for waterproof aprons with sleeves that are going to keep the water out? Many thanks,

Teaching Year R Children To Write
by Guest- 8 replies

I joined a new school as year R teacher last September and am experienced with this age group. My Literacy manager is insisting that I start with copy writing and progress to independent. I did this years ago, but now prefer to encourage the children to use the sounds they know and practise emergent writing which is born out of Letters and Sounds sessions. Unfortunately, however, the manager has evidence that children in the school succeeded using the old methods (they also use the Oxford Reading Tree and work through each stage without giving the children any choice of reading book and I am used to 'Book Bands'). The standards at the school are very high-lots of level 3…

Hi there, I'm not sure how to access my previous post so am having to start a new thread. I'd like to thank everyone for their help with my lesson observation. I was the one returning after long term sick and within a couple of weeks had to have lesson ob from head. Anyway glad to say it went really well so thanks again for help. I am now wanting to set up an investigation/science area with resources children can access independently. Has anyone got any ideas to get me started? What are the best resources to purchase etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all we are thinking of having a camping week in our little woodland area. We are part-time nursery so will need to repeat the session twice daily for all children to experience. The children have suggested a barbeque and hot chocolate. I would love to make it a big week of camping. Has anyone done anything like this before and what activities might you suggest? Hi De Hi Apple
