I have posted about this before but am still unsure of how to develop my on entry assessment. I have been doing lots of visit to the pre-school that feeds into my reception class and they have been making lots of visits to us so I am getting to know the children and am making observations about what they can do. I will be given their learning stories to have a read through - these are not referenced to EYFS but I will get a general feel of where the children are at. What I wondered is if I should use these to mark off which development matters they show they have achieved? Or is this too much? I asked the pre-school leader if I discuss with her or the children's k…

Hello all i am currently looking for a new play house (wendy house) for my outdoor area. I'd like it to be wooden and very sturdy. can anyone make any suggestions of where to look as i would like to buy something that will last a long time and is of good quality. another issue we have is that we have a little boy with cerebal palsy, he will use a walker outside so i may need to consider how big the doors are? thank you for any help and advice bumblebee

hi. we are a primary school with 2 reception classes and a full time nursery. We currently each have 1 hall slot plus 1 outdoor gross motor session as well as outdoor continuous provision. our P.E co -ordinator says this is not enough. Can other schools tell us what they do please?!

As the title suggests really. We are using a scheme which i dont think works very well to compliment development in phonics-building and segmenting. Its fine for my high fliers but for those who need more support blending and segmenting there just isn't enough range within the realms of phase 2 letters and sounds. Can I ask what the progression should be through reading books, or what progression there is through the range of books you use. Im still new to this and although im sure its not good i cant go shouting that without some info!! lol! i can't think what the scheme is at the mo. i know the books have things like beginning to read, progression in phonics…

Does anyone include a self assessment sheet which the children fill out (or adult scribes) about how they feel the year has gone to go in with the report? I have just remembered that last year I was asked to do this, and totally forgot for this year and can't find what we used last year. Just wondered if anyone has a useful form, things like 'Things I have enjoyed about Reception...' Thanks!

Can Anyone Help?

Hi, This may not make much sense but I will try to explain! A boy in my class is struggling with friendships at the moment. He is very able all round, and has no problems in the past with social things. His best friend is now so much more confident than when he started school that he is beginning to choose to play with others, rather than just with F. F was, in the past, more than happy to be with J, but if put with others, or J was away, F was equally able to work/play with all the others. Anyway, F is finding it tricky that J now wants to play with others - they do still spend time together, so he hasn't totally deserted F, just that J is socialising more…
