Hi everyone, Our Head has decided that next week we the whole school will be open to the parents for the afternoon and evening and that each class has to run an 'enterprise' but this does not mean making money. I have not got a clue what to do with my reception class as they have to be there running it. Any ideas what I can get thirty five year olds to do for a whole afternoon and evening? It was suggested we run a cafe but I can't get people to understand that if we're not working in exact money or pennies the kids won't cope! Aargh! Thought about running a treasure hunt but all the work is before & I'm not sure what the children would do while the parents …

Planning For Mixed Ages
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi. Am new to the forum and also to early years. Earlier on this year I took over a mixed age class of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Am just about getting my head above the water after doing both EYFS moderation last week and ks1 maths today. However, I don't feel very effecient with my planning and organisation and would dearly love some advice from anyone else who is in a similar position ( hopefully there are others of you out there!) I'm trying to plan across the whole class in the way that I would plan for Reception. However, this isn't completely practical as my year 2s have different needs and this has become harder in the last few weeks when we've been doing ks 1 …

Observation - Help!

Hi everyone - I am in need of some help from all you clever people. Next Monday I am being observed by our Early Years advisor and Head. I teach Rec/Y1 and our topic is Under the Sea, they will be observing Literacy. So far during Literacy we have been looking at Commotion in the Ocean and the children have written poems in groups. Have also touched on the Rainbow Fish and Tiddler. I am really unsre what to do. These are my possible ideas: Continue work on poetry and work with more able to write individual poems Move on from this to non-fiction - I have a powerpoint of Barnaby at the Aquarium I could show them, then do some non-fiction writing Work on The Rainbo…

Policies

Hi all! Not sure if I am posting in the correct area but here goes... I am the FS teacher/co ordinator in a primary school and wanted to know if we have to have separate EYFS policies or if we are covered by the whole school ones? I know that we need an early years policy but I am unsure as to if we need others or of we come under the 'umbrella' of the whole school. Does anyone who has been through a recent OFSTED have any ideas? I looked through the EYFS and it said ' schools will not be required to have separate policies for the EYFS provided that the requirements are met through their policies which cover children of statutory school age'. Now, as I have so…

Hello all you knowledgeable Foundation/KS1 people! (from a worried 1st timer) I teach a mixed R/Y1 class, and have a lovely shelter built onto outside of classroom for outdoor provision. However it is very small (2/3m sq) and have been given conflicting advice as to what to do, one suggestion was to open the side gate and put cones out, although this is surely a health and safety/safeguarding issue?? We have a lovely nature area which I take the children to as much as I can, but am worried as Ofsted looming and I want to be seen to be doing the right thing! Has anyone any advice, also how would be the best way to manage resources out there? I currently try to provide…

Hi, Hope people remember me- was supposed to have observation today but was cancelled for - well have not got the foggieest why? But my plan was to get phase 1 of a non- fiction unit of teaching taught this week and hten move onto phase two whic is ; Phase 2 Learning outcome: Analyse how information texts work, particularly non-chronological reports, focusing on layout and language features. Use talk for writing, with digital pictures to remind children of content, and practise composing sentences orally in the style of the text. So now have the joy of starting from scratch for an assessment which is due now next week- In mean time am supposed to have covered…
