Hi everyone, Just looking for some ideas and inspirations for our outdoor area. We are very lucky to have a very large outdoor area which is half tarmac and half grass/planted. We also have a play trail on the school field next to our outdoor area which we can access as often as we choose. We have been trying to continually improve our outdoor provision so that children can experience activities and resources from all areas of learning. We do provide some similar resources to inside but also like to offer those experience which are particularly suited to the outdoors. Because our outdoor area is so big, we are currently trying to split it into areas using plant pot…

Risk Assessments

I teach in a small village school with one foundation class. We share our outside area with a privately run preschool. I have a general risk assessment (1 side of A4) that I completed with the children. Unfortunately ofsted are due and I have discovered talking to other people that I should have more risk assessments, but no one needs to know what. Should I have them for individual activities, someone said I should do one every day but this doesn't seem feasible. Please help. I have been given time next week to sort this out, but can't do anything unless I know what is needed. I would love to hear what other teachers do.

Hi there - I have been charged with writing a section of our School Improvment and Development Plan, under the heading "Developing the Learning Journey Approach throughout KS1". Was just wondering if anyone out there had already written one or had found one they wouldn't mind sharing, that I could use as a starting point. Many thanks x

Hi everyone, I was just wondering what specific activities people are doing to teach handwriting at this time of year? Are you still being creative like writing in sand and painting vertically, playdough etc or are you being a little more formal in preparation for year 1? I obviously appreciate and endorse the fact that year 1 now looks much the same as year R to beging with! Thanks for all the ideas in advance!! XX

How do you deal with bullying in a Reception classroom? E.g. calling names (caca, poo), excusing self-behaviour saying the child doesn't like the other's child face, leaving the victim out of group games, telling others to go to another table when the victim approaches, etc.

I hope someone can help, Am an NQT who has an observation next week in a mixed year 1/2 class. I have to teach a lesson about non-fiction texts and our topic is going to be dinosaurs. I want to make the whole class teaching interactive and fun- so l was thinking making puppets for children to see as visual when l say dinosaurs name. The objective is going to be - to be able to answer questions from a non- fiction piece of writing. So the higher ability will be reading a text about dinosaurs and answering questions about it. What do l do for the lower ability year 1. I was thinking they could arrange the words of a sentence about a dinosaur to make sense and then draw an…
