10 Minute Activity Fillers Wanted
by Guest- 10 replies

Hi everybody, just wanted to pick your brains out there, I know its very almost end of the half term but i really need a little help. You know those times when you have ten mins to fill just before lunch, or just before hometime....and you just wish you had the experience of loads of different activities up your sleeve that you can just grab to pass those ten minutes away. Well thats what i'm after, does anybody out there have ideas to do with the class to fill a little time. Would be most grateful of some suggestions xxxx

Puzzle Storage
by Guest- 12 replies

Hi, At the moment, small puzzles (as in ones with small pieces) are in small zippy bags (the clear bags with coloured strip/zip across top) in a box in one of our toy units. Actually, some of them are also in the same box in small, square plastic sandwich boxes (the 3 for £1 clear ones from Tesco). This is ok to a point, in that the children know where they are and are happy to go and get them from there. They sometimes put them back, after a fair amount of nagging about keeping puzzle pieces with the right puzzle! (They are all colour-coded on the back anyway but it is still irritating that they mix them up!) However, the zippy bags invariably end up with bro…

Morning! I am sure everyone is like me doing all the work I was going to spread out over the last week all on one day! I do it every time!! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has to do a scheme of work as well as a policy? I feel that having a scheme of work is too binding, esp as we are suposed to be following the childs interests and involving them in planning what they want to learn. so what is the point of having a scheme of work when I will not be following it?! just wondered what other people think? thanks dont work too hard today! Writing Boxes
by Guest- 15 replies

I'm having trouble with the writing area in my classroom, although the children do use it they don't seem to have any direction or purpose when using it and most of them are "like butterflies, not bees" with this area. In order to get them more involved I was hoping to try introducing writing boxes. These would have resources in them specific to a particular job or area of writing which they can get out and use to role play that sort of thing. I think this will get them much more involved in actually doing some real writing in the area as most of them are more than capable of it. The problem is I'm a bit stuck for inspiring things to put in the boxes! So far I've…

Money To Spend!
by Guest- 7 replies

Hi all I recently posted asking children thier opinions on how to get children into my KUW area. I have decided to buy table top sand and water trays to open up the space more and add three small tents with resources inside to investigate. I have just been told I have £1000 to spend on resources and wondered if anyone could suggest or tell me what they have? On looking through catalogues there does not seem to be much in the way of KUW stuff!! Look forward to hearing what you all have. Thanks

Mixed Reception And Year 1

Some time ago when I knew I was going to have a mixed R/Y1 class I found a wonderful document that has helped tremendously with my long/medium term planning. It it was a ELG/NC chart. The layout showed Green stepping stones on the left and the nc objectives for KS1 on the right. The KUW section was broken down to link with nc science, history, geography, ICT, DT. However when it came to cultures and beliefs there was no link to RE, UNLESS I didn't get the whole document. Now to my point. Does anyone know where this document can be found?. I am sure other teachers now planning for this mixed age class would also find it useful. PS the author of the document was C Corden …

Resources And Activities

I am desperatley trying to think of ways to get my children into this quite big open plan area. It already houses a sand and water tray, a sink, fish tank and resource unit - this contains magnifying glasses, magnets, balloons, fabric, plastic mini beasts, life cycle stuff, mirrors, shells, wood, stones... But the children don't really access this stuff themselves in CI. This area also houses toys for sand and water. What resources / activities do you have that your children can't resist?
