African Land Snails

Hi, our local pet shop is giving these away as they have loads and I am considering one as our class pet. Having read past posts it appears that one or two other settings have them. I was just wondering how easy they are to look after. We have a fish tank it would live it, but it would probably then go on a low window ledge in the sun, would this be okay? It was also suggested that it would need a heat pad under the tank to help it grow, it would just grow slower without one. Any tips and advice would be most welcome Thanks, Jackie.

Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone had any exciting ideas as to how to start a topic on weather? With all the diverse weather lately the children have enjoyed talking about what they have been doing out in the snow and so we thought we would take their lead and base some adult led activities on this theme. I really want something to get them excitied?????? Any ideas would be very appreciated.

These last about 20 mins the focus comes from the children's needs in tems of learning but they are quite isolated. 2) There are currently no small group focus activities it is all child initiated play in and out doors. The chiluidren don't have guided reading, writing or number sessions in small group…

Hi there, Could anyone please help with Guided Writing activities for my Reception Class. I do not have a problem really with my more able children, but I do struggle with ideas for my less able. I work with small groups during Guided Writing sessions (one group each day). At the moment we generally plan what we are going to write together (talk for writing), this could be linked to a text we are reading or a topic of interest. We would then sound talk each word, with me acting as scribe for the whole group. However, the children are not really writing anything themselves (although a lot of them are not really ready for writing yet) and wondered if this was…

Childrens Writing Skills

Hi I was just wondering do any of you in preschool do highlighter names and let the children trace over them. I know we are not allowed to do dots anymore. My EYA said we can not sit them down and make them write their names and we can't sit and let them recognise shapes or numbers. She said that they do not know what they are recognising. I know the EYFS is learning through play. But when you have parents asking why we don't do this it is very hard. How do you get children to recognise letters, shapes and numbers. Dorinda

Really need simple activities that will develop thier independence but something they can achieve easily! Thanks for any help XX
